RE: Another Great Find At The Thrift Shop

in #steempeak7 years ago (edited)

I've done an unthinkable amount of thrifting for resale income in the last 5 years, often 10-15 stores a day. I did it so much, that I quit my corporate job to do it full time. I've since evolved into recycling for profit, which in my area, is essentially thrifting for free on the curbs on recycling nights.

I post on my thrifting finds here and there, but mostly my recycling these days. It's good to see that someone else finds happiness in scoping out a good deal.

I like to believe I have an eye for it. I have a hard time leaving thrift stores haha.

Recycling for profit, that's really cool man, with a positive impact. I'm sure it's well worth the work involved. You're in great shape, so I'm willing to bet you beast those recyclables :)

This is my nicest find, I've yet to have it appraised, and I won't be selling it, but check it out. I paid 0.10 cents for this silver knife.

Sterling silver? That's an investment. I've found a few sterling silver pieces of jewelry in the recycling for a pretty penny after I polished them up. A good trick is to boil water, place tin foil on the bottom of the pan, add the knife with as much surface area touching the tin foil as possible, and pour baking soda into the mix. It removes the tarnish easily and dirt cheap. I've done it many times, but feel free to test it/research first.

Pretty sure it's sterling silver, but I'm not an expert in precious metals, I am sure that it's silver though. Unfortunately the handle is hollow, but I am confident that this isn't a plated knife. It has the old markings on it, and from what I've found in research, it's not likely this was plated, and I'm not seeing any indicators at all to suggest there is plating, quite the opposite actually.

Thank you for the tip with how to clean it up. I'll be sure to make a follow up post about this once I have an appraisal and have it looking nice. Thanks bro.

On the off chance you didn't know this yet, if there's a .925 stamped on it, that'll indicate sterling silver. If not, it might be silver plate or they simply didn't stamp it/it wore off).
