Many smiles during the Sinulog Event

Before I start going into details about our event. I just want to give a little trivia about Sinulog...

What Is The Sinulog Festival?

It is considered as the most colorful, grandest and second wonderful time of the year for Cebuanos in the Philippines, it usually held every January as a Thanksgiving event for the Santo Niño.

Sinulog is very widely known to everyone, about 1 to 2 million Filipinos join every year even tourists are flocking to witness this colorful event. There are so many popular festivals in the country, but knowing someone who has to go far away from his land just to join Sinulog is such a one of a kind experience.

Behind every successful event, there's a united and hard working people that invest their time, energy and effort into putting up a grand show.

This was on the 18th of January where we started making a square hole into the cardboard for our Steemit Photobooth

Everyone was busy making the props, not minding about the time and the mess we created.XD While Mr. @jassennessaj has finally reached the peak of his REM sleep, he got tired distributing the Sinulog shirts.

In planning an event, it needs to be creative, organized, and flexible. It needs to work well under pressure to meet deadlines while juggling other important matters. Everyone from the Steemph.Cebu core leaders were quite busy with their personal lives, school activities, and work, especially some of them are living far from the city. We really try our hardest to balance everything even if it means spending a sleepless night working on the said project which is Promoting Steemit on the biggest festival in Cebu.

How did the event go?

Our booth was located across from the Sto. Rosario Parish Church.

Arrived at our spot before 6 am. We supposed to be here at around 4 a.m, but we couldn't make it, we need to catch some sleep. We have to be early because the city officers will close the road and start to jam the mobile network signals at 6 a.m. This was the earliest time I'm on a Sinulog event and I can't contain my excitement seeing half-empty roads, few floats on the street, and people chatting.

We successfully hung the Steemit Photo Booth using a plastic, wrap and tied around to the rope.

When we arrived at the place, we thought we couldn't find a spot because the person whom we knew hasn't arrived yet and we need some assistance. Feeling lost, we were only left with a rope and other stuff for our booth. After a couple of minutes, finally, the head of Kabalikat Civicom has arrived and ordered his officers to assist us. We have decided to let other Steemians to hold the Steemit Photo Booth, but it seems too bothersome for them. xD. Then, our brain cells work! Thanks to @fernwehninja's innovative idea, she tore a piece of a plastic and tie it around the rope!

An early morning drill for @thefairlady and @fernwehninja. An alternative way to sweat out: Carry a table! haha!

I know the caption was misleading. Honestly, we never ran out of problems on that day. We didn't have tables nor chairs for the booth. We kept on calling everyone who could lend their tables, chairs or umbrellas. And the roads have closed already so it was kind of impossible to ask someone to bring those needed things. We became desperate, and good thing, I remember that I have relatives living around that place. We went there and rented their tables and chairs for 500php. I felt bad I had to disturb their sleep, I'm glad my niece helped me. We took turns carrying the table. It was fun running down the road and dodging those jeepneys!

This was our humble Steemit Booth. It looks small and can only accommodate few people in it. We used "trapal" or a tarpaulin to shed us from the rain or sunlight.

What did we offer to the Steemians?

There were a lot of things in store for steemians. We have lots of freebies for both steemian and non-steemian! I offered a free-of-charge face painting for everyone who wants their face get painted with random colorful shades. While Mr. @josejirafa rendered his hidden talent which is a henna tattoo. He inked everyone with such precision. I envy him, I certainly can't do it without smudging the skin's surface. 😞
There were also available shoutouts written on the cardboard for them to use for taking wonderful shots at our uniquely designed Steemit Photo Booth! Another international steemian @purpletanzanite and friends, who offered a discounted hair braiding at a very affordable price which is ranging from 150php - 400 php. I got mine at 200 php only.

How did we promote Steemit to Non-Steemians?

We gave pamphlets or fliers to every passerby and explained to them about Steemit. It's quite difficult to convince them to join Steemit because most of them are hesitant and doubtful. I also helped in explaining Steemit to those people who received my free face paint, there were very happy to know about Steemit and some of them were really interested to join.

Got a chance to spend my Sinulog with my best friends 💕

A group picture together with the Kabalikat Civicom and were very thankful to them for making this event possible with their help!

It was indeed a fun-filled experience holding a big event during Sinulog for Steemians. Even how small our booth was, they still manage to snuggle themselves comfortably. Though our booth was quite inconvenient for them, seeing them smiling, chattering and laughing makes it very cozy! I really want to fast forward everything, waiting for it to end and get and good sleep. But when I started to enjoy what I’m doing, I really didn’t want to end.

Til Next Sinulog!!!!
