I'm impressed by the developments of @steemmonsters and as a person who is in the game more as an investor than a player, I'd like to share some details with you to help you make better investment decisions and even gameplay decisions. Let's start with few facts on the supply of things.
900K Booster Packs vs 200K Orbs
The orbs work exactly like Booster Packs and only cost about 12.5% - 25% more (based on the fluctuation of general DEC price on STEEM-Engine) Considering the fact that there are 450% more Booster Packs it is wiser to put your earned DEC into getting more of these Orbs (and maybe even spend your STEEM for DEC)
The Results of 2 Orbs
That's $0.75 from the first Orb. Since I never spent anything on buying DEC, it might as well be free. There are two more important facts for you to know.
- Cheapest Rare Card is at $0.17
- Cheapest Common Card is at $0.07
The worst possible outcome is 4 Common Cards with 1 Rare Cards meaning you are at least getting $0.45 in value in a worst case scenario.

Ease of Leveling Up Legendary/Epic
There is a set probability of you card being of a certain rarity. According to the official @steemmonsters Kickstarter page here are the probabilities:
A card has a 26% chance of being RARE.
A card has a 5-6% chance of being EPIC.
A card has a 1% chance of being LEGENDARY.
Any of those cards have a 1-2% chance of being a GOLD FOIL CARD.
Players who don't spend a lot of money won't open many Packs/Orbs resulting in smaller number of Epic/Legendary cards. When there are only few variations of the Legendary/Epic cards, it's going to be much easier to get the same card multiple times and end up leveling them up faster. Here are the card numbers:
- 9 Legendary Alpha Cards
- 15 Legendary Beta Cards
- 4 Legendary Reward Cards
- 10 Epic Alpha Cards
- 17 Epic Beta Cards
- 6 Epic Reward Cards
