The Traders Tale - A Tinkering Beginning
1
Woken by a pesky ray of sunlight, that somehow found his eyes through the smallest of cracks in the leaky roof, our character curses as he mopingly rises from his squashed mound of hay.
"Bleedin' sun out here... old home din't have that annoying firebulb."
As he rises, his mangled spine cracks from top to bottom and back again. Half-gazing up at the sun coming through the crack, he curses and starts mumbling to himself. While scratching at his face, eyes slightly stuck together from his slumber, he takes a glazed look around his worn-out little wagon. It ain't much, and it's barely holding together, but it smells like home.
He shoves the door open and another curse spills out while he raises his hands against the blasted sun...
The door swings open awkwardly and he steps outside, the sun-blazed pebbles unpleasantly warm his feet. He contemplates the chilled stones back home and begins to grit his coarse teeth together, squeezing his fists tight, he begins to rattle and shake as he erupts;
"How can they live like this?! This place is ridiculous!"
Our traveler yearns for his old home back in the underground. The climate and open-nature of the above keep him on-edge and restless; something that makes interaction quite troubling. He seeks comfort in his current reality because of his newly discovered interests, for these, he will endure the suffering.
He begins to slog around to the front of his wagon where he grabs the nuts and bolts that were acquired the day prior. The bubbling anger begins to cool as he considers the possibility of hitting the road soon.
From one searing hellhole to the next is the burden he will bear.
With his wares in hand, he approaches his hog and slides out the handy ratchet and shifter situated on the side of the bike.
Quick to work, the nifty goblin doesn't take long with the adjustments needed, his sluggishness sharp changes into a swift rhythm. Engineering and tinkering are well-polished professions of his people.
As the bolt satisfyingly does its final turn, he looks back and checks the connector bar between the bike and the old battered wagon. It's solidly fastened. Confident that it will trail his wagon behind without any issues, he slides his tools back into their slots.
Akox claps his hands together and grins from ear-to-ear, knowing for certain that he is the only tinkerer in the lands that could have solved the engine problem. His face visibly beams with pride as he springs onto his hog and grabs hold of the handles. Finally, he flicks the bike into go-mode and cranks the handle with a forceful twist. The roar of the engine fills the air as the groans of the grinding gears bring his mechanical marvel to life.
Good riddance to this place, our journey is now underway.
