Upcoming Balance Change

While we do our absolute best to avoid adjusting the stats on cards once they have been released, we have been very clear that we will do so if we feel that it is necessary to maintain a fun and balanced game. Those of you who play in the higher ranks regularly probably know that we're talking about Prince Rennyn.

We keep a close eye on the win rates for every card in the game, and for each Splinter as a whole, in an effort to maintain a balanced meta. The data, coupled with a significant amount of player feedback, clearly indicates that an adjustment is required in this case.

We admit that we did not anticipate how strong his +2 Health buff would be, so as a result we will be updating the stats on the card from [+1 Ranged / +2 Health] to [+1 Ranged / +1 Health / +1 Speed]. The change is expected to go into effect on Wednesday, June 19th at approximately 11 AM ET / 3 PM UTC.

We expect that he will likely remain as the top Summoner in the game after this change, but our hope is that it will make him a bit less dominant.

Going forward we also plan to continue to introduce new rulesets, new cards, and new Monster abilities which will both provide some of the other Splinters with more counters for Prince Rennyn teams, and also serve to keep the game fresh and interesting for players.

Damn, I'm really reliant on the +2 health he gives. Well, time to change up the way I play.

What about Lord Arianthus? This card is OP too.

Don't touch the Arianthus! By doing so your fire splinter would get even more dangerous! :)

Lord Arianthus' win rate is about 51.77%, so we don't really feel it needs an adjustment at this time.

But is it win rate from battles where only one player used Lord Arianthus? Big difference between Prince Rennyn and Lord Arianthus is that only some players can afford Prince Rennyn but probably everyone can afford Lord Arianthus. So if everyone has Lord Arianthus no wonder that win rate is close to 50%. On the other hand when only small group of people has Prince Rennyn, win rate is simply higher.

Yes you're right, the win rate when one team has lord A and the other team doesn't is a bit higher at 53.71%, but still not too OP at least by that metric. We'll continue to keep an eye on him though in addition to player feedback.

I would really like to see the Hydra's health go up to 7 at level 1.. It is a LEGENDARY, and the Flesh Golem is a common still whooping everyone's ass..

Keep in mind I do not own a Hydra..

I mean at max-level ?

For me it's no question that in the novice league he is completely OP because only very few monster have magic reflect or void at level 1.

But at Max-Level in my opinion their exist good defence like:

  • Lord Arianthus + Prismatic Energy at the first two position for every splinter.
  • Flesh Golem + Earth Elemental with Earth
  • Frozen Soldier + Water Elemental with Water

Lord Arianthus is made of bullet proof glass. His not bad OP but good OP :)

Not 100% sure if this will make him little or less OP :D

The more I think about this change, the more I think it makes him more OP :P

For example, now Rennyn could be easily beaten by Plado on low to mid mana caps just by having +1 speed. After this change the speed will be the same.

I do not even Own a Selenia Sky Yet so I Guess the Fact That I don't have a Prince Rennyn either is not going to effect me at this point of Change. I am Just a Grateful Monster Player that will improve my deck as I can..........

@steemmonsters, Definitely when it feels that some changes has to be implemented then it should be because as you said. It's all about the Balance.

Keep up team and your continuous efforts towards the improvement and development is really appreciable aspect for sure.

I know this is controversial in the Crypto world, but I do think there are good reasons for Balance adjustments even in games like Steemmonsters. Otherwise the game might end up unplayable or very onesided in favor of earlier players.

However, a compensation of some sort might be nice, if the change lowers the cards value significantly.

Finally! Plus 2 hearts was a bit too overpowering. The little cocatrice will be nearly impossible to hit but magic can finally shoot it out in the first round.
