It's like they always say, buy low and sell high! Well, steemmonsters is no different. The trading prices are at epic lows right now, and that's mostly due to the fact that the STEEM dollar is down.
Most of the monster fans come from the steem platform and purchase their boosterpacks with STEEM and SBD. As STEEM is so low right now, people are pinching their little pennies and keeping their wallets shut.
And until we have a larger external population of players bringing in currencies from other markets, steemmonsters cards will be mainly influenced by holders of STEEM, whose decisions are influenced by STEEM.
Of course @yabapmatt and @aggroed have made it possible so that more external currencies can play in the game: USD, Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Litecoin included. And the game is making its way onto other platforms as well, including a number of EOS fans.
Be free, cryptocurrencies! Fly like a bird! Steem Monsters awaits you.
Until then, the main influencer right now is STEEM (the irony is, STEEM is influenced heavily by Bitcoin, but who's keeping track?) And when STEEM is low, we get feeling stingy and don't want to spend. But when it comes to investing, this is the WORST thing you can do! Right now is the time to buy up STEEM and buy up Steemmonsters!

Trading prices are low, and although boosterpack prices remain the same, chances of getting good cards is higher because there are fewer sharks swimming around in the pool buying up hundreds of cards for resale.

I would sign up, but I don't feel comfortable entering my private keys on your site. Why not use steem connect?
Good question. Transactions use steemconnect, but signing in to the site means trusting aggroed and yabapmatt with your posting key.
They're working on a browser extension that will mean your keys aren't sent over the net; but are stored entirely in your browser; but it's not ready yet.
In the meantime, the devs are two of the most trusted names on the chain.

Understandable. Yabapmatt, the main coder, hates it more than we do, hence the efforts to build a browser extension. Get involved, mate. It's great fun speculating on which cards are going to be winners. Stats are out soon. Gameplay start of October.

just to clarify... steemmonster asks for the posting key... not happy about this but at least its not the active or owner key??.. ;)
Correct. Logging on to steemmonsters.com requires your posting key. Buying packs or individual cards with Steem generates a steemconnect popup box which needs your active key, but this isn't communicated to the SM devs.
The steemmonsters team can't jump into steemit and spend your money; but they could post and upvote on your account if they wanted to. (They don't want to).

The price is always quoted in USD... and now crypto prices are low.. so buying booster packs now equals selling crypto at such depressed prices...
why should that make sense?
but OK.. your are talking about bidding for single cards...
so people selling cards now probably bought the booster packs at higher valuation.. e.g. cheaper in steem units... so they are still selling at profit... atm steemit income for steemians is lower.. so people do have less steem to buy their favorite cards on the market and this drives prices down...
if prices go up on the other hand lets say to 4 USD or even higher you get twice the amount of booster packs per steem units and that should deflate also the market price for single cards...
so still does not make sense to buy now..
if yaba and co. want to encourage people now they could do by promising more rare cards in each booster pack.. but again... this again will deflate prices..

I would advise them to fix prices in steem and not in USD.. this should solve the problem...
If you invest in SM packs and the STEEM price drops, being denominated in USD, they should theoretically hold their value.
If the STEEM price jumps, then assuming the cards you bought are still available, they'll become cheaper, (at least for those buying with STEEM), but then price rises can't help but boost the value of the entire SM ecosystem.

I agree some parts of this post do not make sense. The author has on some level realized this and is contradicting themselves.
Chances of good cards getting higher? Please show us that calculation.
