Ok I been playing SteemMonsters for about 2 months now, and I have to learn new stuff about it by trial and error all the time. Unfortunately it's not like the can go to a wiki to get strategy, Aand like a lot of you I certainly don't want to go to a discord channel type in a conversation just to get some info and help about the game. It's a freak'in game I want to read up or watch a video at my covenience, not by word of mouth. We need a more permanent solution, that you could read at your convenience.

So I will be dolling out info a grab bag of different things I and my fellow members of the Steeminati have figured out in a series of blogs.

First for the record let me state, (except for cards) at the present time I have no financial interest and am not part of the SteemMonsters Team. I'm just a player who has a few friends I have been trading with (the members of the steeminati)

So time for a little fun.

Thank you alot @richatvns for making the graphics I use in this post.

In fact the image above won 5th place in the @steemmonsters art contest this week. Way to go GHPB!
I'm told the above image isn't even done yet...Can't wait to see what he does to it!

This mixed bag in this post:
Lets start with a funny meme,
Go over a strategy term or two.
Point something out you should be aware of in the game, that you might have missed.
Give a Tip and illustrate with the replay of a couple honorable battles I had with some opponents

Start with a Joke:

idea for the meme based on @fibra59 's "meme challenge"

To start with let's get a few terms down we and others have and will be using:
Tank
A tank is a card that has high (shield + health) VALUE and can do melee or magic damage damage

Note the peaceful Giant is a tank because if he is placed with a summoner that adds 1 to Magic attacks he has a magic attack. (right now that's good enough) .

Assassin

An Assassin is a melee character with Sneak ability, they add to your fire power and can get cards that can hurt you off the field before they can cause you mortal damage.

there are other terms which I will go over in future posts such as: suppressors, bandleaders, game changer, intentional targets, and others. But those are for future post.

Tip #1 To start you should not blow through the 'Know your Enemy found POPUP WINDOW"!!!

There is information here that is not available on the next pages where you put together your roster. And it will help you set up your team for battle and you can avoid big big big mistakes.....

Most importantly is what your opponent's "recently played teams", which shows what elemental types they played with in the last 4 or 5 battles, and the "playable splinters", which shows the splinters you and they are able to use in this battle.

In addition to showing you that if you put your mouse over the team dots you see the roster they used for each battle and the order....

THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF!!!

I'll go into the strtegies with these in another post...

but to show you what I'm talking about here's just 1 example:
You see that the opponent used the earth earth water earth earth, and each used roughly the same monsters when it was earth, and earth was not eliminated splinter in this coming match.

You are probably going to fight a weak earth player or a very rarely a dumb powerful one. And if earth is eliminated you will fight water if the magic powerdown is not in the changing fight rules.

Here's the reasoning:
First the water play was because probably they were not allowed to play the earth splinter in that battle.

A weak player got earth as a quest and is trying to get the daily bonus, and keeps playing because they keep losing and need that booster pack.
Sometimes a very powerful opponent will be found in the upper third of each tier trying to level to the next tier to get more booster packs in the season so they play their best team. But with the changes implemented in season 3 they are a major disadvantage if they stick to that strategy. (i'll explain that one in a later post as well)

See what you just learned.....And I haven't gone deep into anything yet!

(you should be able to tell by the cards they used which
For example

Here is the first simple rule:
As a general rule ALWAYS place the ranged after the melee player characters in a lineup.

if you don't you will definately end up losing close battles.
Why? because as the match gets deeper and the cards before the ranged card get eliminated you will end up with a situationn where both ranged card amd melee card are essentially taking damage and unable to fight because the ranged card is in the first position and melee card is not. Please note cards with spikes, retaliate , healing or game modifiers that let all melee monsters do sneak can be exceptions to the rule and special cases.

Finally I have some epic close battles from the last week that I played this last week against similarlly powered opponents. 2 wins & 1 lose:

My lose illustrates the strategy tip:
https://steemmonsters.com?battle=17d0f5ba52d6a1457e5a9d1740989b9b4476dc05&ref=payoutbot

these two wins use a tank and some assassins:
My opponent in the first had better cards then me, but they did not set the cards up with the rule I gave you earlier!

In the second I made a mistake and a battle should have won easily went to the end.
It was played where all melee monsters get sneak...
