Steem Monsters Sunday!: Latest Rewards and Collection Update!

The end of the last season was somewhat uneventful for me as the competition in Champions Division was too tough for me to move up another sub-division or get anywhere near the top of the leaderboard. The game continues to get more challenging as players are learning great strategies to battle and move their way up the leaderboards to achieve better rewards. I have been somewhat behind in these strategies given how busy things have been in my life to start the year. I have not been able to really take into account many of the changes made for the new season to see how they could be incorporated into battle strategies going forward.

I continue to join a handful of tournaments being hosted around the community with little to no success as I have yet to get a win in the first round of those that I have participated in this week. However, it does not frustrate me as I am enjoying the gameplay and how dynamic the game is becoming with the introduction of new Reward Edition cards every day! The fact that I am no longer winning just because I have higher level cards is actually positive as it shows that there is balance in the mechanics of the game as long as you give it the attention needed to learn. This is a great sign as the development team prepares for more automated tournaments hosted on their site in the coming weeks.

It seems that although I can get into Champions Division, I cannot get above 4,000 ranked points as it has been challenging giving the cards and strategies faced while there. In fact, the daily quests became extremely difficult and time consuming to achieve as game were tough to win in some cases. I am even running into this issue in the latest season as I have not been able to consistently stay in Diamond Division to complete Daily Quests! However, finalizing the season in Champions Division did provide me with 100 Reward Cards!

While I was able to get a good number of the newest Reward Edition cards released, I did not get any Legendaries for this opening. While I am not one to complain about luck given the two Legendary Gold Foil cards I pulled from purchased packs, it is more exciting to at least a legendary a season which I did not get the whole previous season which is crazy considering I have gotten over 200 cards for the season! However, the first daily quest after the season was over gave me a pleasant surprise for the Rewards:

It was pretty late and my daughter was falling asleep when she saw me flip this card over! She obviously woke up and started to cheer that we had finally gotten one! This screenshot was actually taken right there as she immediately ask me to send her the image to her phone so she could have it. It was an exciting opening which is what continues to keep me coming back.

As I have continued to consider the ecosystem, I see @steemmonsters as the bedrock of what the blockchain can do and attract more to become part of the community. I really want to take advantage of what continues to be an early adopter opportunity so I continue to play and purchase more resources to have a great position for the future of the game. This was also the last week of the Steem Power Refund promotion where @steemmonsters would refund you 10% of your purchase in Steem Power so I took advantage and bought another batch of cards!

Unfortunately, the luck of earlier in the week did not repeat itself as I did not get any Legendaries from these packs! While upset once I realized it, I did notice an increase number of Epics and Neutral Monsters which would serve as great additions to the Collection. With this latest purchase, it puts me about even in the number of packs I bought for Alpha versus Beta. Until now, I have only leveled up Alpha cards due to their advantage of requiring less cards to level up. That has led me to have a large amount of Beta cards which I am looking at as potential investments to eventually sell and fund future purchases. However, I have yet to think about the implications of these but know that there is definitely value.

I am happy to see that my collection’s value has grown over time and while it is weighted towards the Gold Foil legendaries I have, it demonstrates how the digital assets available on the blockchain have value and even have a very liquid market for them within the ecosystem. This continues to show the value of the protocol and its possibilities if developed on with the support of the communities that surround the ecosystem. Despite the challenges around us, many projects continue to forge forward to lead the momentum towards value creation.
