ALPHA CARDS WILL BECOME LIMITED!! - SteemMonsters News

"When the beta in released we will stop production of the Alpha cards" - @aggroed

I don't know if you understand how HUGE this news is!!
There may have been allusions to it in the past but this is the best statement we've had to date and I'll give the full quote and source down below.

An ever changing game

I know the game is still in production and they're still coming up with new ideas, and we have about 2 months until the likelihood of BETA starting, and there is no 100% certainty of all the statements that are made on a random interview show... but this is an idea that many many heavy buyers have been hoping to hear! This is the sort of stuff that turns unlimited playing cards into limited collectibles and raises the value quite a bit. In the last couple of market posts I talked about how these cards have a limited value based on that they were unlimited and the drop rates predictable. It's still true that in the short time the prices can't go up much in the secondary market because people can still buy unlimited amounts. So any short term trades are still governed by those logistics... BUT... this news will mean there will likely be less sellers and perhaps a bit more active buying in the secondary market along with more packs being bought.

My biggest question as far as clarification is: "Will these monsters still be available in a different sort of Beta version card or are they totally limited at Alpha?"

At about the 39 minute mark is when he made the biggest statement

THE BIG STATEMENT by @aggroed

I just quickly wrote down what he said so any typos are my fault.

"Some of the things we can do to help increase the price of the cards over the time and reward those people who came in. It doesn't exist now but we will put edition into the cards. When the beta is released we will stop production of the Alpha cards we will put beta. It will still be the same card but it will have like B written instead of an A. These were alpha cards and these are beta cards and then there will literally be no more alpha cards ever printed. So i think all the people that are like collecting cards now in 5 years when this game blows up and there's no other way to get them but to trade for these I think that's gonna be a big deal for folks."

"If we do our job, all of that(purchases) will pay off ... I think these things will have a lot of value."

OTHER THINGS THAT WILL ADD VALUE

  • 1000 SBD tournament prizes
  • Lots of ways to play each day and to win money (steem/sbd)
  • Playing single player and other games that add buff the card or add items (from previous statements)

These cards are like tokens

RANDOM THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

  • Again I don't think this changes the immediate prices you'll see in the market directly except that more people will become HODLERS and therefore sellers will decrease and buyers will be perhaps be a bit more aggressive (previously sellers were chasing buyers). But you can only go so far because at a certain point on price action because at a certain point a buyer will just choose to buy booster packs instead. So i would guess that sellers stay a little bit more firm on prices in the mid to higher range of what's normal.

  • I also think this announcement will create a few more long term investors. The type that will go in and buy a lot and perhaps may go into the secondary markets looking for the deals as well.

  • Even though there are 6000-8000 of each common card think about that... it's only barely enough to create 16-21 fully maxed out of those cards at this moment together with a small handful that have already maxed them out. Even if that doubles or triples by the time beta rolls around that's only 30-60 players who may ever play in a tournament with that particular card maxed out. and that's a longshot because many people will keep them uncombined to increase their ability to buy and sell them.
On the other hand many rares with total numbers of cards available are in the 3000-4000 range and only need 87 to fully max out and that means there could be 35-45 of those. Also there could be about 45ish max epics and legendaries out there.

Seems like something is wrong with the math on max common... seems like it should be changed to be max at level 8 (129 card combinations)

  • We still don't know the answer to the question. Is a max(10) common more powerful than a max(4) legendary? A legendary costs a ton more in the present market however what will happen to the adjustment of those prices if it turns out a max10 common is more useful in game play? If it is more powerful that's fine we just need to know sooner than later.
I guess i should just ask @aggroed ... you reading? What's your opinion or statement?

  • And last thing to think about ... an uninformed or uneducated market means that little of this will have any impact. If they don't know or don't care then you can't really predict much anyway. Plus you're mixing objectives in the market... some just want a few more steem from a short period trade and maybe that's so they can buy more packs when the price of steem goes up.

YOUR TAKE?

How does the announcement about alpha cards becoming limited change how you think about card value??

Sort:

I feel that these cards at certain prices, the sellers will regret and I've been saying that since day one. Now this is awesome and it totally just changed the dimension of collection for me... Good move and good post, thank you @monsterworld.....

It is my understanding also that with wins in tourneys, your cards can and will gain experience points, so the total number of maxed out cards will be the number of cards left that were singles and not leveled up. Example if one person purchased every gold dragon card available to the point where no one else would be able to max level their gold dragon, he may or may not be the only holder of a maxed out dragon after the tourneys start, because the other gold dragon card holders can level theirs up through game play.

Interesting news. You are right so much changes with a game that is still in development. Always exciting.
