SteemMonsters New Battle Mode

The upcoming new battle mode of SteemMonsters is awesome! Although it is still not turn based, this is a huge improvement from the current mode.

After selecting Practice or Ranking, the game automatically goes into searching for an opponent. Once an opponent is found, you will see a screen as above. The conflict, mana cap, and playable splinters. Then you have 3 minutes to build your team. The team building page is similar to the current one.

With this change, playing SteemMonsters is now a totally different game. You will need to have a good understanding of every cards' stats and abilities to be able to build a winning team. Not only that, you can outthink and outwit your opponent.

When I saw this conflict, the first splinter that comes to my mind is Water, since it is strongest at Standard gameplay mode and 25 mana cap. And I also guess that my opponent will likely use Naga Warrior as tank. To counter that, I decide to go with Peaceful Giant as front and many Magic attackers behind. Unsurprisingly, the outcome is exactly what I anticipated!

But this is the Testnet. I don't have maxed Neutrals on my Live account.

This highlights the importance of having a wide variety of splinters at your disposal. If you are only concentrating on leveling one class, then you will have difficulty progressing. An experienced player will easily counter your team when he sees your "Recently Played Teams".

With this new battle mode, playing Steem Monsters is not just clicking the Battle button anymore. Now we have to think and outsmart our opponent. A battle will also be take a longer time now since we need to think about strategies. The daily quest will be harder to complete.
