Why Steem Is the Best Community Out There | Steemleo 24 Hours After Launch Report

Wow. Steem is just the most supportive community out there. The response has been nothing short of incredible and we are blown away by everything that’s happened…. and it’s only been 24 hours!!

I (@khaleelkazi) like the idea of AARs (after action reports). I like to breakdown what happened and look for ways to improve going forward while also taking a little moment to celebrate the good that's happened.

So in case you’ve missed it, here’s what has happened in just 24 hours since launching our Steemleo tribe:

1. 1 Million LEO Tokens Staked!! (over 50% of the current distribution, excluding the 2M LEO Sell Wall)
2. The LEO token is #2 on the Steem Engine DEX for highest volume currently @ 9,131 STEEM / $3,225.20 for the first 24 hours
3. The LEOMM (Mega Miner) is #4 on the Steem Engine DEX for highest volume currently @ 6,813 STEEM / $2,406.43 for the first 24 hours
4. Tube.Steemleo.com is gaining some traction and we’ve seen a few Steem celeb video creators posting there
5. The discord channel launched 12 hours ago and has almost 100 users already

The Good:

The good is all of the awesome stuff above and more. We’ve got thousands of posts on Steemleo and they are continuing to roll in!

The LEO token is seeing amazing levels of activity and is 2nd on Steem Engine for most traded token in the last 24 hours. The LEOMM mining token is performing well.

Despite a few hiccups, users are very happy that we airdropped to PAL holders (over 1.8M LEO has been airdropped so far). It adds an incentive for stakeholders of PAL and hopefully sets a little standard for other tribes to come.

The community has stepped up in big ways to help us get the ball rolling. People are curating like crazy and the engagement is through the roof!

The Bad:

The main bad point is that we had some bugs with the airdrop and missed some PAL stakeholders. We’re manually making our way through the list of people who have been skipped over (it’s mostly people who are either delegating PAL or unstaking PAL).

Other than a few bugs with the airdrop, people are misusing the steemleo tag for content other than investing.

We’re trying to curate as much of the steemleo content as possible, especially by upvoting with the @steem.leo account to get some extra STEEM rewards to all you amazing investing creators out there. We’re building out the curation team at the moment. The ultimate goal is to be able to manually curate every piece of content on Steemleo, but that may take time to get up and running.

Where Can We Improve?

We see a lot of room for improvement and we’ll be working on these things right now:

1. Fixing the airdrop glitch
2. Adding better content moderation/curation so we can review more Steemleo posts
3. Tag moderation for people who are abusing the steemleo tag and not posting about investing

What Are We Working On Right Now?

1). Discord & Weekly Podcast

We’re currently organizing the discord as we also help the final airdrops go out to those who were missed in the first 2. New channels will be added, etc.

We’re going to start the weekly podcast soon. This is an idea that I’ve told Steemit, Inc. to do for the past several months but instead of waiting around, we’ll launch it right through Steemleo and use it as the backbone to growing this community.

The idea is simple —> host a weekly podcast, talk about Steem, investing, etc.. Record the podcast and upload to every major podcast outlet (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, DTube, Facebook, Twitter, Stitcher). Come up with a good landing page to send listeners to where they can learn/sign up to Steemleo (& steem).

Chop up the same podcast into smaller bits and distribute as well on places like Twitter, Instagram, etc. Consider using targeted Facebook Ads/IG ads to expand the reach of the podcast.

The goal of this is to onboard new users to Steem (and to Steemleo). I like to call this “the only real marketing strategy you ever really need”… Because it literally is just that. I worked in social media marketing before and trust me, If you do this podcast right and distribute it in the ways I’ve listed, your reach would be limitless and as the podcast gained traction, your onboarding would go through the roof!

2). Tag Moderation

Many have pointed out that tag abuse is rampant on Steemleo. It’s not that people are spamming (although, there is some of that), it’s more so that people are posting under the steemleo tag when their content is entirely unrelated to investing. Remember what we said in the announcement — we don’t want to see pics of your cat! (unless it’s in the middle of performing a trade, of course).

In a few hours we’ll have a discord channel set up for tag abuse reporting. We’ll have an accompanying account that will flag rewards on posts that are unrelated to investing and therefore, misusing the steemleo tag. Note that this account will ONLY have LEO powered up and thus, will not take away other rewards such as PAL or STEEM/SBD.

3). LeoPeak

LeoPeak is in the works and we’ll be live on the Steempeak tribes page very soon.

4). Learn Leo Series

We’ll start a series in a post later today titled “Learn Leo” where we’ll teach the basics of the Steemleo platform and how it all works. Examples of what will be talked about include:

1. How Proof of Brain works on Steemleo
2. How content is rewarded
3. Why Stake LEO?
4. How the virtual mining tokens, LEOMM and LEOM work
5. etc..

Limitless Possibilities From Here

This is just the beginning of Steemleo as a platform. What we’re realizing is that this ship is moving way faster than expected and we’re not just hitting the ground running, we’re flying past any and all expectations.

We’re working on finishing the airdrop and then our focus will move more and more toward outward marketing and onboarding users from outside of Steem.
