The Airbnb For Pools

in #steemleo5 years ago

The first online marketplace for pool-sharing, known as Swimply, just recently launched in Australia and the platform gives people who don't have a pool the chance to rent out one from someone who isn't using theirs.

We have seen a number of similar marketplace environments spring up over the years, with Airbnb style businesses for other things like boats, warehouses, and RVs.

These types of platforms are giving people a chance to monetize their property in a new way. Many who own boats, RVs, or pools, might not be using them a great deal of the time, and they can now easily promote that property for rent to those who might be interested.

Right now, it's estimated that only around 12 percent of the population in Australia own their own pools, leaving millions looking to public venues, and private alternatives to beat the heat.

With Swimply, clients accessing the platform are able to book a pool through this marketplace for roughly $50 per hour or more, and some have used the option to organize a variety of private events, including birthday parties, baby showers, and other celebrations.

To make sure that all of the pools being listed are also complying with health and safety standards, the marketplace has partnered with a pool maintenance company known as Poolwerx, to work together to accomplish that objective and ensure safety.

Users are able to download the app and rent a private pool through the platform for as many hours as they need.

For anyone who wants to rent their own pool out through Swimply, they are able to set their own price, availability, rules for the pool, and what sort of payment method is accepted.

Swimply was officially launched just last year and it is allowing pool owners to help offset the costs of pool ownership by renting it out when they aren't using it. It also expands the opportunity for pool access to people who might not have access to go anywhere else.

The platform takes a fee from every transaction, and it's also important to know that they don't provide any insurance for the pool for possible injuries that might take place when people rent out the pool area. This responsibility is ultimately going to be up to the homeowners, in case someone rents out their pool and gets injured on their property.

However, in the terms and conditions with Swimply, they note that guests renting the pool must sign a waiver, agreeing to assume all risks to themselves or any guests with them. Anyone who wants to have their pool rented out is going to have to have the property inspected before it gets added to the platform, this includes inspecting things like chlorine levels and tiles etc. As per Swimply rules, there are also stipulations about having at least one individual be involved with the booking who is 18 years of age or older.

By the end of Nov this year, Swimply had at least 100 cities around the United States already, and they've also expanded into Toronto.

Now, they just recently launched in Australia too and some of their pool hosts are allegedly earning $2000 per month or more. For some who've seen slow business so far, they think that's because not many people have heard of this marketplace yet and when they do, they hope that it might be similarly embraced as other Airbnb style marketplaces have been over the years as well.
