Reading: purpose and types - with activities / 5th grade

in #steemituducation6 years ago (edited)

When you read a text, it does not always have the same purposes. For example, if you are looking for the results of a baseball game in the newspaper, what is the purpose of reading? Is the goal the same when you read a story or when you study?

The purposes of the reading are varied:

Sometimes we read to find specific information; others, to give us a general idea of a chapter of a book; At other times, we want to understand a topic; Sometimes we want to do a review, etc. For each purpose we can use different techniques.

To do a quick read, you can follow these steps:

  • Ask questions before reading the text.
For example: Who would win the game yesterday?
  • Find the answer. It is convenient to read quickly, without reading everything: just "follow up" until you find what you are looking for".

Before studying a unit, it is convenient to make an exploratory reading. In your case, what do you do to discover the content discussed in a lesson before studying it?

Exploratory or global reading allows us to know what a topic is about. This type of reading consists of reading "up", paying attention to everything that draws our attention, especially in these elements: the index and the introduction to the subject, the title and subtitles, the illustrations, the summary at the end (if there is would be) and the words highlighted in bold.

Deep reading involves reading very carefully. For this you can follow these steps:

  • Examine the topic, that is, make a global reading.
  • Read the complete text twice, first quickly and then slowly and carefully.
  • Write briefly the most important ideas.

Possibly you tend to review what you studied.

Reading revision allows you to better retain the information you previously understood.
