I should know better then to expect linear outcomes/love is not a commodity/at least not the real kind/Love just is/ If we expect reciprocation then the gift becomes shackle or snare/A child starved of love might never recognise its true shape/ hunger so deep seeded might settle for low calorie meals/might find them less intimidating/Love is my stranger and you are her messenger/Are you cake or diet soda?/ The answer pulled through carnival mirrors becomes dissonant noise/ but then does it really matter?
