Steemit Sandwich Contest Week #24 (Theme: Chicken) - First Entry: Orange Chicken w Grilled Bok Choy Sandwich
Thank you everyone for your overwhelming responses to my baby post, my goal is to reach 100 sandwiches before my baby arrives in May. Go, me, go!
This week, I have cravings for Chicken and Chinese food and what does that mean?! Well, it means I have to make a Chinese Style Chicken sandwich. Ha!
Many of you must have tried the famous North American Chinese dish - Lemon Chicken. Thought, I would make something similar but with a twist!
Instead, I opted to cook my chicken burger in an amazing orange sauce instead. And then stuff the orange chicken burger inside a bun along with some grilled Bok Choy.
To my surprise, when I placed the orange chicken burger on the bun, the sauce dripped through to the bread and it tasted soooooo damn good!! You see, you won't know what good food is until you tried it out
Also, I love bok choy's peppery flavour and to grill them is the best way to bring out the flavour. The bonus is it goes really well with the orange chicken (Ha - I guess, because they are both chinese food. Normally, Chinese people would eat the main dish with a bowl of rice. But in our case, we will eat with bread!)
This sandwich really expanded my Asian food horizons - Priceless!
Here are the ingredients:
- chicken, flour , egg, bread crumbs, orange juice, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, tomato paste, chinese hot sauce, honey, orange skins, green onion, garlic, corn starch, water, bok choy and sandwich bun
Here are the steps:
- place chicken fillet in flour, egg, then bread crumbs and bake at 400 for 20 minutes
- make the sauce by mixing all the sauce ingredients in a pan and grill boy choy (separate the green part of the bok choy from the white stem)
- once the chicken is cooked, place them in the sauce and cook for another 5 minutes
- assemble the sandwich by spreading some orange sauce on the bun, place the white part of the grilled bok choy on the bun, then layer with orange chicken fillet and top with green part of the bok choy
Here is a GIF on how I assemble the sandwich.
Hope you enjoy this creation!

what an interesting combination of flavors!
Very flavourful indeed
Ooh I really love the sound of the orange chicken, yum! I made a big vat of marmalade and had so much leftover so I added some of it chicken and it was glorious, I should do it more often. I will definitely be trying your recipe!
Thanks girl - Homemade marmalade sounds wonderful to me!!
That looks delicious, I'm sure all three of you enjoyed it thoroughly😉
Haha - we did. Baby was kicking me!

Oh My God!!! Looking at your creations is like taking a psychedelic trip! :)

Another fine piece! Legendary ;)
Dig the orange instead of the lemon, i’ve had simialr dishes (not chinese food) however, definitely a good flavour!
