Steemit Sandwich Contest Week # 11 (Theme: Japanese Noodles) - 3rd Entry - Pork Belly & Kale Open Face Crispy Ramen Noodle Nest Sandwich
This is an Asian inspired open face ramen noodle nest sandwich. I spent my teenage years in Hong Kong and they have a famous egg noodle dish that I absolutely adore and it is crispy pan-fried egg noodles.
It’s a classic southern Chinese dish. Basically composed of a nest of egg noodles fried in a wok until crispy and harden. It's usually topped with a combination of stir-fried meat, seafood or vegetable.
For my 3rd entry of the sandwich contest this week, I decided to make my own version of this super crispy noodle cake/nest by using Ramen noodles as well as to turn it into an open face sandwich.
There are two important elements to this dish, the noodle cake/nest and the toppings.
Making the Ramen noodle cake/nest
- The method to get it super super crispy and golden brown is to bake in the oven at high temperature. I first seasoned the Ramen noodles with sesame oil and soy sauce. Then, bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 400. The noodles would harden and form a crispy cake/nest. I would use it in lieu of bread and as the base of my open face sandwich.
Making the toppings
The second element of this dish is the toppings, and the varieties are endless. I have cravings for some good fried pork belly and garlic kale, so I picked them as my toppings and gave them an Asian touch.
First, marinate the pork belly with sesame oil, soy sauce, Korean hot sauce, honey, lots of ginger and garlic. Let it marinate for at least an hour and then bring to room temperature and fry in a pan until golden brown.
In another pan, heat olive oil with sliced garlic, don’t let the garlic burn and add chopped kale to the pan, stir until wilted. Also prepare some mushroom and a 8-minute boiled egg.
After that, layer the sandwich with all the toppings and then this Asian inspired open face sandwich is done. This pork belly and garlic kale open face crispy ramen noodle nest sandwich was to die for.
Totally satisfied my cravings for some of my childhood favourite dishes and my love for noodles. This concludes my entry for this week’s sandwich contest and I hope that you enjoyed all my creations!
