SteemitSandwichContest Week #42 - Herring & Sprouts Patchwork Quilt Sandwich
Once upon a time when I was young and carefree, I used to say that I will one day have tons of time to make a beautiful patchwork quilt. Of course that day still has not come, so I decided to make a patchwork quilt sandwich instead, much quicker than a real quilt; as I have been promising a lady who makes beautiful quilts here on steemit & that lady is @apanamamama...yep a mama from Panama :)
My sandwich quilt however pales in comparison, but at least can be eaten so that's one plus!
- White & Rooibos Rye Bread
- Salted Herring - marinated in white Balsamic Vinegar for about an hour, then sliced
- Hard Boiled Egg - sliced
- Chunky Full Cream Cottage Cheese
- Cucumber - cut into julienne strips
- Mung Bean & Lentil Sprouts
- Spring Onions - finely diced
- Lettuce
- Tartar Sauce - mayonnaise with diced dill pickles, lemon juice, sugar & pepper
- Cherry Tomatoes for garnishing - cut in half & remove pips
Prepare the patchwork quilt by cutting out shapes from one slice white bread & one slice dark brown rooibos & rye bread.
Assemble the quilt...cannot sew it ;)
Cucumber, Sprouts, Spring Onion & Herring gets mixed with Tartar Sauce
Now to stuff our quilt and turn it into a healthy Herring & Sprouts Sandwich.
First to go in is a generous layer of Full cream Cottage Cheese
Next into our quilt is the thinly sliced egg, seasoned to taste.
Now for a lovely layer of Herring & greens - the greens complementing the pickled herring.
Lovely lettuce to seal in the flavours.
The final layer of our quilt goes on top with half a cherry tomato in the centre.
A lovely fresh summery Herring & Sprouts Patchwork Quilt Sandwich.
A quick look at the whole patchwork quilt sandwich making process.

I don't think I have ever had salted herring. Sounds interesting. Your sandwich is a work of art...beautiful!
Thank you @tesscooks4u, salted herring has quite a strong flavour so cannot have it on it's own. Appreciate your kind comments :)
ASIDE from looking absolutely delicious... these sandwiches look too beautiful to eat! They always say you eat with your eyes first and these images of your creation definitely make me hungrier than I already am.
Thank you so much @goldendawne!
Does your husband literally bless the day he found you every night before he goes to sleep? If not, he should. This is so creative!
Ah this is such a compliment coming from you @enchantedspirit! My hubby calls me his Cullinan diamond LOL ;)
I don't know where you get your ideas from @lizelle! That looks utterly delicious, and a work of art. I love salted herring, but I've never thought of putting it in a sandwich - especially a sandwich that looks like a patchwork quilt!
Also the sprouts are a really nice touch. It's making my mouth water!
Thank you for your great comments @natubat, really appreciate it :)
Looks really tasty! ( almost a shame to eat it)
Thanks @awgbibb, I also did not want to destroy it but we needed to eat so the poor patchwork quilt did not last long ;) Thanks for stopping by, much appreciated :)
That looks lovely and delicious. Thank you for sharing @lizelle!
Thanks @hope777, appreciate you stopping by :)
LOL, love your corky style. Making food in the form of inanimate objects :)
Looks Awesome!
Ah thank you @jaybird, I'm really enjoying sandwich making these days :):)
This looks both pretty and delicious @lizelle.

Yea!!! I love that you made a sandwich like a quilt!! :) It's great and looks tasty! I just recently heard about lentil sprouts - I need to make some! I just love how this turned out - you always make the best looking sandwiches. :)
Thanks for stopping by @apanamamama, glad you liked my quilt;) It's so easy making your own sprouts & they're so delicious plus super healthy!
Yay to no bidbot. I cant help but to click on your post due to amazing sandwich photos. You took so much to make this and I know it is delicious without tasting it. Hope you win. ;)
