EAT. SLEEP. LIFT. REPEAT

Hi, I am Shayne Claire Pasibe, and I am an alcoholic.

This could have been me.

Yes, my life before was all party. I was a bartender, 6 times a week, and even right after my shift, I would still go out and drink with friends until I would pass out. And then repeat again the next day.

EAT. SLEEP. DRINK. REPEAT.

That was pretty much my life before; let’s just say I’m still 20 years old at that time. So this has been my routine until I reached the age of 30, so yeah, 10 years of partying. I just worked for about 3 years as a bartender, but drinking and smoking habit did not stopped until I gained weight.

At the age of 30, from having the model body that I once have to having chubby cheeks, chubby arms, and chubby waistline. From size small to size large, this makes me extremely furious not to be able to buy the clothes that I liked. I started feeling bad about myself, feeling ugly, feeling restless and demotivated.

Age of 31, aside from the bad 5 years break up, I started to lose my confidence more. So I started reflecting. I am not getting any younger plus I am single. There should be something more that I can do with my life which is worth it. I started living healthy which is until now, I think is the best thing that I have done for myself…and not for anybody else.

I started Cross fit and totally loving it. One thing I liked the most about Cross fit is the community. You never get bored working out and you never feel alone because there’s a lot of you who have the same motivation and you inspire each other. You work out together, you share the same goals together and you achieve those goals together.

And most of the time, you cheer each other to achieve those goals.

When can you really say that you’re fit and healthy? Is it the 6 packs abs? Is it the muscle cuts? Or is it the curvy waist and big ass? I’ve always been so skeptical about working out and lifting weights. I have always thought that weights can make your muscles big, just like what I always see in bodybuilding competitions. So when I tried out Cross fit, I told myself, I’ll just enroll in a beginners class….just cardio, core and metabolic conditioning…and no to barbells.

But Cross fit all along is not just cardio, core and all. I think the main goal of Cross fit is pushing you to the limit and be the best version of yourself. Not just the abs, not just the muscles but the slow progress you have done for yourself from day one. For me, that is more important than having muscles and losing weight. As they say “Slow progress is still progress.” Everyone will always have an excuse not to work out but you will never see any progress until you started and you continue working on it.

I started to joining local competitions. For me it is not about winning, but how you finished the race and did all your best and everything at maximum effort.

Now, age 34, three years after the party life, I have never felt better.

Now:

EAT. SLEEP. LIFT. REPEAT.

"I'm not telling you it's going to be easy. But I'm telling you it's going be worth it."

Now it's time to change, and I'm glad that I had read here in your article that you overcame those alcoholic days.
