Blue babe - a 36,000-year-old male bison
In July 1979, the mummy of a 36,000 year-old male bison was found only north of Fairbanks, Alaska. A gold digger initially saw the mummy that came to be called Blue Babe. He used a high-pressure water gun to wash away layers of frozen silt wanting to reveal a layer of rock that contained gold, but then he saw the bison's feet standing out of the mud.
For a 36,000 year-old mummy, Blue Babe's body was almost completely intact. It gave scientist a good platform for researching and possible new discoveries. The examination revealed various realities.
ANOTHER ANIMAL KILLED BLUE BABE
Scratch scars on the back of Blue Babe showed that some predator had been in charge of its death. By matching the scratches on Blue Babe with the imprints made by predators, researchers assume that Blue Babe had been executed by a lion. Furthermore, a most persuading piece of proof was that lion left a huge bit of its tooth in the bison's neck.BLUE BABE DIED IN EARLY WINTER
This fact was backed up by 4 indications. Blue Babe's body contained a lot of fat, showing that the regularly leaned creature was prepared for winter, the examination of Blue Babe's teeth and horns likewise demonstrated that its summer development was finished, Blue Babe had winter fur, and last but not least, body was only partially eaten meaning that it froze soon after Blue Babe fell dead.
Today, you can visit the University of Alaska in Fairbanks to see Blue Babe. Even though it's not the same that's pulled out of Pearl Creek, you can only see a plaster mold covered with Blue Babe's tanned and treated skin.
In 2012, the second bison, named Bison Bob, was found. Check more about him here:
