Steem School Episode 56 - How to Use SteepShot Without Looking Like a Spammer
Another app that you have heard of or not that I will cover today is called Steepshot. (website: https://steepshot.io/).
"You can use it to share cool pictures you have taken with your mobile phone, curate and comment photos your friends make and never worry that any third party will censor your images." -Steepshot
But now you wonder why you should use Steepshot instead of Zappl and dMania.
The difference between Steepshot, Zappl and dMania is that you can use a maximum of 20 tags and 2000 words for your Steepshot post.
Why 20 tags? I have absolutely no clue, besides that, they should add a bigger window to add a maximum of 2000 words into (1 line is not enough).
Anyway, If you use Steepshot correctly you can avoid looking like spam because it allows 2000 words max.
My recommendation: Write your text before in Steemit and then copy and paste it into the description field.
How to Use Steepshot
You can use Steepshot for mobile devices and on your computer. You can download the app from Google Play (It is not available in the app store yet).
When you click on "STEEPSHOT" on the top left of the screen you will be brought to your feed where you can see what pictures your followers have uploaded. There you can like their pictures and comment on them.
Right from "STEEPSHOT" (in the top left corner) you have the search bar, your feed, and the browse link on which you can browse Steepshot "Hot", "New", "Top".
Further on the right (almost at the top right corner of the screen) you have your profile picture which you can click on.
There you will see your description, your Steepshot posts, how many people follow you and how many people you follow.
To upload a picture with a description (which will be uploaded to Steemit as well) you have to click on the "Create Post" orange button right from your profile picture.
There you add your picture, your title, the tags and your description.
Again: Write the description before on any editor and then paste it into the description.
After you are done with all that you hit the orange "Create new post" button to publish that picture with a description on Steepshot and Steemit.
The last thing right from the "Create Post" button is the gear wheel. There you can set if you want to see low rated posts and NSFW posts. I left both options deactivated.
And that's it for today! Pros add long ass descriptions to their posts, make sure to do that and you will be able to use Steepshot without looking like a spammer. Have a nice day!

@valorforfreedom, I do not agree to this. Steepshot will never become popular among the better and best photographers of the world, both amateur and especially pros, if writing text descriptions becomes a criteria for good photographs. I have some background in photography and have several international salon exhibitions and a couple of awards and we photographers like our photos to be enough on its own.
Is it really possible that a Steve McCurry or a Henri Cartier-Bresson will write long text description of their works?
Text description requirements did not make Instagram what it is today.
I had a similar discussion with @therealwolf as well.
I do not know what @steepshot's position on this is, but a one size fits all approach of having long text descriptions on all types of posts is not a long term solution.
A good photo needs a good description, a photo without anything else will look like spam, that is my opinion and I bet many others share the same.
But you are free to disagree on my posts and even If I disagree with anyone I will not punish it, I encourage my readers to disagree if there is something they disagree with.
You made a good effort with your comments and I gained more insight, that I will reward.
A long text below a picture might not be the solution on different platforms, however, we are on Steemit which is mainly a blog and if you have your blog full with great pictures without anything at all you will be a spammer in my eyes, there simply is no effort involved.
I appreciate that you will not flag based on disagreement. If it comes to the situation that disagreements are punished with flags, then is community will simply become a decentralised censoring machine and nothing else.
On your point about many people agreeing to your position that photo without text is spam, that is exactly where my apprehension about @steepshot's long term success as an alternative to Instagram comes from. Chances are very less that any of the very good photographers whom I personally know or have seen works of in international exhibitions will use @steepshot if this becomes the standard for quality.
Some of the most successful people in the world actually liked to be challenged and for their team to disagree with them, Steve Jobs, for example, loved it, he actually promoted people that challenged him with good facts, it showed leadership and confidence, which is something that we need nowadays
The world is sycophants leeching on to men of power. We need to come out of this cycle
Good to see an unfiltered discussion here on Steemit for once.
People are so afraid to disagree or say their opinion because many people will flag. Steemit ain't censoring anything but the people do censor Steemit themselves with their fear.
Kinda sad and funny at the same time.
A lot of ass kissing on steemit. Hehe.
Everybody want that upvote so better lick some ass.
Personally i upvote almost every comment. But not if i feel my ass getting wet of licking.
^This.
yes, kinda sad censorship is a very tricky thing. I am not of the opinion that nothing should be censored, but to find the right balance and figure out the right criteria for censorship is where everyone goes wrong. No body has yet found the solution to this.
That is because a person decides for himself what he finds offensive.
What is right and wrong in our society is determined by our law, but nobody agrees with all laws.
Only the weak accept censorship.
I am not talking about difference of opinion, but about controlling really that is bad, the extremes like child porn, incitement of hate crimes, leveraging religious and racial divides to incite violence. I do not think such things should be allowed to propagate.
Saying something and doing something are two different things.
If someone is motivated to do shit by someone else and does it then the one who motivated him is of no fault to me.
I agree however that these things should not be supported, but that doesn't mean that it should be forbidden to talk about these things.
If you cannot talk about the harsh realities then people will stay stupid, which is the reason why the elites love censorship so much.
I agree and disagree. a think this app is fore amateur photographers. can make it easier
whit the app and make a good post if u are a pro you know what you are doing and u dont Ned this help.
Remember there are many professionals on Instagram and many brilliant ameteurs.
am just starting to check out other apps. interesting whit how simple it is and make a description. and how you can escape the spam trap, sometimes I have a picture that I want and share but will not make any big post on it. and apps like
d mania is so bad it almost blocking people who use it.
Add a good long description and it doesn't look like spam anymore.
Sadly most people do not do that.
I think I shall give this one a try. I knew about zappl and was using it. I had not explored steepshot before, more characters means more time for me to actually explain what the hell is going on.
I am a fiction writer, coloring in a picture within the limits of a haiku is super hard for me. So 2048 characters would be easier to use than 240.
Well, I won't abandon Zappl completely. Gave me some income on its time.
Thanks man for an informative post!
Glad you like it Zak!
Don't push the workers around too much at work.
Hahaha
I am Supervisor and Safety so it is difficult to push.
"Do the work fast! Don't die!"
Ah that's why I have seen the Steepshot logo on so many post lately. Didn't even know what it was so this was really appreciated.
I will give you a follow and upvote
Thank you Anderssinho.
Never used Steepshot, just like dmania, i find that the line between spam and content is very blurry, if a person i followed suddenly decided to go on a dmania post creating or steepshot rampage i would probably unfollow, unless they were really really good...
I don't think however that most pictures require a long description, we got steemit for that, just look at Facebook, or insta or any of the other social network websites, most ppl only write 1 "inspiring phrase" and that's it, most of them i don't even read... If the text was even bigger i would read even less photo descriptions
If people want to post pictures with long description they could use steemit for that no?
I share your opinion Teuto.
I remember using Steepshot when it first came out. At that time you could only use like 5 tags I think. Why 20 now? Maybe to get more exposure since most people like the blogs or videos. At least that's what it seems like.
Probably for more exposure.
Thanks for explaining how to use another great app. I was going to use Zappl today, but I ended up posting with Steepshot today, because of your post.
You will like what I cover today.
I am not even close to having all Steemit apps covered.
Yes, steepshot is a good app and I know it is not the only one and not will be the one to be in this particular domain and that is the thing which excites me more and keeps me positive about blockchain and steem particularly because if developers are developing more and more apps on this blockchain then that means it has some value which is increasing day by day which in the end is good for crypto community as a whole.
Man, I love your grind. Whenever I come across your posts I am like this guy is really hustling and if he can do then I also have to do that. Man you inspires me
