Steem School EP 33 - How to Use Bots Without Ruining the Trending Section

Today I will explain to you guys how to use bots without ruining the trending section.

I see so many people with high reputations and low-quality posts in the trending section because they are using bots to boost their posts into trending.

They think they will make profits with that but they usually do not make profits because if you boost low-quality posts into trending you have not understood what bots are for in the first place + nobody gives a fuck about trash posts.

Bots are made to promote your post in the trending section so that your hopefully high-quality post gains a lot of attention which results in followers, upvotes & referrals or whatever your goal is.

(Check out this badass boosted post by @bycoleman to see another boosted post that is well-formatted that provides tremendous value.)

But the people using these bots are thinking they are going to make profits because the bots show an upvote which results in a profit (without additional upvotes) on the bot website.

In my experience, the bots never upvote in the amount that they show on the website and it also encourages shitposters to use these bots to further promote their shit not giving a fuck if they do their part to transform Steemit into a Shitcoin.

These people make losses because they boost low-quality trash posts into trending that nobody gives a flying fuck about.

They will not get good upvotes, many followers or referrals or whatever their goal was.

However, I am not innocent, I have used bots when I was a nooby for pure profits, the difference, however, was that I always gave my best. If you are writing very good posts than you can, of course, use bots to get a profit (which in my experience does not work anymore).

Now I am only using bots when I want to boost posts into trending (like this one, for example, to show you how it works).

So how do you use bots the correct way without pissing people off that care about Steemit in general? You stop promoting trash posts.

Promote posts that provide a lot of value to the people that browse or operate in the tags that you used for your post and format them perfectly. Like that you will probably get good upvotes, many followers, referrals and more.

I should have replaced "Steem" with "Steemiteducation" back then, however, 511 views, a good profit, many followers and a couple of referrals are still an extraordinary result.

That post was meant to be boosted, I provided information that all Steemians are interested in and formatted it perfectly.

Now you know how to use bots the correct way, and now I am going to explain to you how to use bots to promote your badass posts into trending.

Understanding The Trending Section

Depending on in which trending section you want to be in you will have to pay more or less.

It will be way more expensive to be in trending in the "Steemit" tag than in the "Howto" tag.

Check the trending sections of the tags that you want to use and look what the average total upvote of the highest ranking posts is.

Example: The average total upvote in the trending section of the "Howto" tag is between $60-200.

Average Upvote.jpg

That means you will have to boost your post to that value.

Protip: If you boost your post above that total upvote average you will surely be among the first visible posts in the trending section.

How to Use Bots

Warning: Every bot is different, I highly recommend that you do a thorough research on how to use each bot.

Here is the professional explanation of how the bot system works which comes straight from the website: https://steembottracker.com/

Bid Based Voting.jpg

My savage explanation: The higher your vote is the more cash you will receive, this makes it hard to predict how much you need to bid in order to reach the amount that you want to get into the trending section.

My recommendation is to click on "Details" on the right side of the bot and click on "last round". There you can see what people bid for which posts.

Let's check out @mrsteemian with his 50.00 SBD bid on his post (which you can see by clicking on the link on the right side).

For this bid he got a $106 upvote which is in itself a loss, however, his post is now on trending and the quality of the post will make people upvote it or not.

Bid Trick.jpg

Bidding 2.jpg

Anyway, we can see that he gets ~$100 for his 50 SBD upvote, so if we want to be for example on top of the trending page for the "howto" tag we will have to vote with 100 SBD to get a $200 upvote which will place us on top of the trending page.

So this is how it works: Select a bot that has enough value to boost you to trending (for that you need to use the bots with the highest value).

To see the bots with the highest value you have to pull the dot all the way to $1000 (see picture below).

Pull it.jpg

You will not just choose 1 randomly, you will do your research about these bots before you use them!
After you have done that you choose a bot that you want to put your precious Steem Dollars in.

After you have done that you will have to wait till the current "vote phase" is over and then a little bit more till you receive your upvote from the bot that you have selected.

And if you have done everything right you will get an upvote that is close to your calculations and predictions.

Again: Only use bots if they provide tons of value to the people in the tag that you are using for your post and when that post is perfectly formatted, otherwise I recommend to abstain from using bots for the reasons I mentioned in the first section.

UPDATE: Trending positions after bot boost in the picture below.

I agree with most you said here. I have had people tell me to get bot help and it just feels repulsive to me. It's like cheating and no matter how good my posts are I really could not live with myself if I paid to have it seen, it's dishonest in my eyes. And it also takes from pride if something gets genuine response. I guess you are right that if one wants to result to using bot one at least should have the decency to provide good content. If your a prostitute at least be a high class one and not a 5$ back door madame .For me personally using a bot is not an option as I would feel like I was defiling my honour or selling myself at a street corner - like EW!

Bots are part of Steemit, to compete at the top you need to use them.

And my gut reaction to you saying that was that of the mule in front of the tall hill, I felt my mental heels digging in, LOL. Seriously though the only way I could see me not feeling bad about bot votes is if it happened through a sponsorship program. In greek antiquity, roman and germanic societies artists, scientists & poets were often sponsored by those who believed in their work. So I could see how people buying bot time for people they believe in here is an honorable use of the bot. But self use just makes my operating system send me Error messages I seriously do not think I can bring myself to do it. To me it feels like giving out handjobs to random people for attention :P

So for now let's do this I will try 6 months without and if I am still in the shadows we can see if I feel different about it. Omi kann halt nicht anders sein als sie ist :P

That comment made me laugh.

Omi will soon have to use bots to make ernsthaften impact.

^^ we shall see

This is just my opinion, but I think that it might be better to just spend your earnings on powering up, especially if you're just starting out on Steemit. You just gain so much more influence once you start accumulating a decent amount of power.

There's also a good chance that you'll actually lose out when buying upvotes. Good advice for when you get past minnow phase though.

Correct, promoting posts is too expensive for Minnows.

However, you won't gain much influence and Steem Power if you never promote, at some point (when you can afford SBD losses) you will have to start doing it if you want to reach "the next level".

I, for example, have over 1000 SBD, I can easily afford 20-30 SBD loses in trade for more followers, referrals and attention.

Now it's just grinding a couple of dollars at a time and focusing on improving and putting regular content out. Services like Steemfollowers or Steemthat have also been a great help.

But yes, buying votes is something that seems inevitable once you reach a certain level and still want to grow. Ain't getting on that trending page without dishing out some dough...

No way around it, they are parts of the system and you need to use them to compete at the top.

I like what you write buddy, it is that grind mindset that shines through your words.

Get that money.

I am new here on Steem (just over a week now, and loving it!). I have built up to nearly 100 followers just through networking (as for me I want genuine followers who are interested in what I will be sharing.

I have been finding it hard I post what I think is a bad arse post which I put alot of effort into and it seems like no one cares (there is so much on heres its probably easy to get lost in the results).

I think for a minnow like me I have three choices:

  1. Invest in some Steem and add to my Steempower
  2. Slowly build up my reputation through networking and posting good content
  3. Invest in a bot for upvoting

I think a combination of the last 2 will work best for me (Im too poor to invest at the moment all my money is going towards travel!)

I have started to investigate Minnowbooster and it seems pretty good!

Great post thanks!

Read all my SteemSchool episodes.

Ok yeah Iv had a look they are greta and such great detail. Keep up the good work!

Nice one. Its just so simple: boost trash post and get trashed but boost good posts and get rewarded!

You increase the chances for rewards, they are not guaranteed.

thanks for the info

Good video pal, I learn something new although am only powering up ATM

He is very right, my personal opinion is that I must always post interesting and quality information to use bots.

thanks to you for excellent post that interests us all steeminsU5dt4rchhq1RgTT3AYZz1zd3wGCdM8K.gif

Thank you
I have been visiting bot tracker for a while but haven't understood it much so this really helps

I have been writing my heart and soul out since I joined steemit ten days ago because I have found this epic passion for writing since I have been here.

It's a bit daunting if you don't get a lot of people supporting with views and comments but you still feel good when you know you wrote something of quality.

I have also been following a few of your posts formatting so I am hoping I have been oing it well.

Anyways, cheers man and keep fucking shit up.

Awesome.

Will do, just keep posting every day, at some point people will realize that you are here to stay.

I will. Following you for more tips.

I have never seen the most informative content like that before. Thank for creating really useful guides for stemians, especially newbies. Hope you can write more stunning content like that! I'm waiting for it.

Suggest something, maybe I didn't cover it yet.

That's what I was looking for, Thank you I bookmark this post.
You are really give such a great info.
