You only get distracted when you look at the source of the distraction....It doesn't take much to get distracted as a person. Be you a student, a worker, even a Pastor. To be distracted, it only requires little or no effort from the distracter.
As a student for instance, you can have all the zeal and enthusiasm to aspire for academic greatness but the moment you step foot into the four walls of a university, several factors tends to mitigate against your dream. It would require great strength and a powerful self-willed mind to go through school with the same enthusiasm you entered with.
There are several things that distracts one in school but with all these distractions, we still have a very good number of first class students who have dedicated their time and mind into their academics. They have been able to manage their time and cut out all unnecessary activities. It is important that students engage in extra curricula activities but it is more important that they don't allow these activities hinder their academic pursuit.
My coursemate named Henry is a typical example. He is correctly a student of Mechanical engineering who had the dream of becoming very successful in his field. He's a wonderful footballer, he's even a member of their faculty football team. He's an musical artist too. He's also smart but amidst these qualities he's suffering academically. This is beause he didn't set his priorities right. When his mates are studying, he would be in the field training. When he ought to be resting at night, he would still be awake rehearsing and writing songs. Though he's gifted , he has successfully allowed his gifts hinder him academically. Question is, does he wants to be a footballer? No. Does he wants to be an artist? Probably. Why then does he allow his gifts affects his dream for life? Chances are he lacks proper priority management.
All it takes for a student to be balanced all round is proper management and priority settings. Never use your study time for something else because as a student, your studies comes first.
That aside, sexual relationship is the most distracting factor in the university today. It has and would continue to ruin life if it isn't handled with COMMON SENSE. Not only sexual relationship but all kind of relationship too. The people you relate closely with has a major effect on your academic pursuit as a student. You can't roll with sheep and expect yourself to be feared like a lion. Like the saying goes SHOW ME YOUR FRIENDS AND I WILL TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE
Lastly, don't be deceived, evil communications corrupt good manners. So if you want to retain the passion, zeal and enthusiasm you entered school with, walk with people of like manners.......
