Book Review: To Kill a Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was first published in 1960. It is about a widowed father, Atticus and his two children; Scount and Jem. The young daughter, Scout tells the story from her perspective. Jem is her brother who is five years older than her.
The title "To kill a Mockingbird" means to destroy innocence. Throughout the book, a number of characters can be identified as mockingbirds who have been injured through the contact evil.
Primarily, the story focuses on racial inequality that existed in 1930s Alabama. Atticus is a lawyer and is asked to defend black man in a trial where he has been accused of raping a white woman. The story also repeatedly talks about their reclusive neighbour, Boo Radely which makes it more interesting to read. The character description is exceptional. Harper Lee's way of describing a particular person from their physical appereance is magnificient.
I would like to suggest this book to everyone who loves reading. It is a classic and totally worthy to read.
