Home Schooling and Earning College Credit -- Budget stylesteemCreated with Sketch.

Home schooling can be a daunting word for many. They wonder if they can do it and if they do how long they should do it. Should they continue through high school or should they go back to a traditional school settings. For those who continue to home school through high school they start thinking about college prep. But what many don't know is that there are programs where high school home schoolers can earn college credits and get even complete a degree while in High school.

There are the traditional routes of doing this, where you contact you location community college or university and enroll your student in courses the school offers but this route though not as expensive as "traditional college" it is still out of reach for many families that home school. So what do you do if you want to give your child a leg up. You think outside the box. After a lot of research I have found two site that offer free classes and your student can earn college credits or industry certifications by taking the test, the only fee is for the test. The classes are free and the test costs are affordable.

Edx was founded by MIT and Harvard University and has partnered with many well known Universities. You can find out more about the course they offer here at this link

Future learn is the other site that I like, though i think Edx is a little more in depth. But they offer course you can take free and once again you can pay to take the tests to earn credits or industry certification. Both of these sites can help save your students Thousands of dollars in furthering their education, as many of these courses are offered by major universities and the credits are transferable to most universities and colleges. Though you will need to check with each university to make sure they will accept the credits. As with all credit transfers for college.

You can find out more about the courses future learn offers here at this link

You don't have to be a home schooler to use these course, if you have a desire to learn take the course, you don't have to take the test, you will still have the knowledge even without a credit. That is the amazing thing about knowledge regardless of a grade or credit no one can strip you of it.

My son learns online. And these resources has allowed him to explore areas to see if he has a further interest in it, without us going into debt. Give it a try.

though in the photo he is watching a video about a video game it looks like

For those following me I did not title this a free home schooling resource because it isn't 100% free, but it is cheap and there is no age limit on those who can take the classes you can be young or old.
