Science Focus: Making Calligraphy Ink
Doing calligraphy and having a birthday.
My husband has a particular fondness of quill pen writing and since it is his birthday today I decided to find a post on how we can make our own ink. He loves doing calligraphy so this will be an amazing way or making our own ink and helping him to have a lot of ink on hand.
Make your own ink
You will need the following:
- Measuring cup
- Water
- Dish soap
- White glue
- Small jar or vial to store the ink.
- White vinegar
- 10 nails
- Wooden spoon
- 4 bags of black tea.
- Small bowl
- Plastic crap.
Instructions:
- Clean the nails.
Pour a 1/4 cup of dish soap into a bowl with 2 cups of water. Leave the nails in the soapy water for half an hour. - Drain all the soapy water and make sure that you dry the bowl and the nails.
- Place the dry, clean nails back into the bowl
- Pour enough vinegar over the nails to cover them. After this cover the bowl with plastic wrap.
- Let the nails soak in the vinegar for two days.
- After the two days boil the bags of black tea in a cup of water for ten minutes. Let them cool down.
- Mix equal parts of tea and the nail-vinegar liquid (remember to remove the nails) into the vial.
- Fill your jar about 3/4 full.
- After this mi the glue until the ink is thick enough to write with.
- The ink will turn black when it dries on the paper.
Use a feather, which end has been sharpened to write with.
May you have a lot of fun and enjoy being creative, writing, drawing in any way possible to life out your creativity.
