Today we are going to look at learning disabilities.
What is learning disabilities?
Learning disabilities are neurologically-based processing problems. These processing problems can interfere with learning basic skills such as reading, writing and/or math. They can also interfere with higher level skills such as organization, time planning, abstract reasoning, long or short term memory and attention. It is important to realize that learning disabilities can affect an individual’s life beyond academics and can impact relationships with family, friends and in the workplace.
This definition of learning disabilities were compiled by the Learning Disabilities Association of America.

How to identify learning disabilities.
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development compiled this list of the possible signs/indicators of learning disabilities:
Difficulty with reading and/or writing
Problems with math skills
Difficulty remembering
Problems paying attention
Trouble following directions
Poor coordination
Difficulty with concepts related to time
Problems staying organized1
A child with a learning disability also may exhibit one or more of the following2:
Impetuous behavior
Inappropriate responses in school or social situations
Difficulty staying on task (easily distracted)
Difficulty finding the right way to say something
Inconsistent school performance
Immature way of speaking
Difficulty listening well
Problems dealing with new things in life
Problems understanding words or concepts
These signs cannot be viewed and used alone to diagnose someone with a learning disability. A professional assessment will be the final assessment to diagnose the learner or individual with a learning disability.
