Human Body Series Part 1: Cardiovascular System

Have you ever thought about how wonderful and amazing your body is?

No?

Well, through our six part series on the Human Body, you will find out how amazing your body is. This six parts will consist of the following elements:
Part 1: Cardiovascular System
Part 2: Support System
Part 3: Respiratory System
Part 4: Digestive System
Part 5: Excretory System
Part 6: Nervous System

Each of these six systems have different functions and elements that we will focus on, but for today we will be focusing on the:

The cardiovascular system consist of the
*Heart
*Blood
*Arteries
*Veins

It has different functions:
*Transports oxygen and carbon dioxide
*Distributes nutrients
*Transports waste
*Distributes hormones
*Regulates body temperatures


The heart is a specialized muscle, who's function is to circulate the blood through the body. The cardiovascular system has a cardiac cycle which consist of two parts

  1. Systole: This is where the ventricles contract.
  2. Diastole: This is where all the heart chambers relaxes following the contraction of the artria. Here is a short video clip to show you how the cycle works.


Our blood transports nutrients, gasses (oxygen and carbon dioxide), hormones and waste products. It also helps with our immune system.
Have you ever thought what your blood consist of.
Take a look at this picture, that shows you the blood components.


Arteries have smooth muscles in the walls and it takes blood away from the heart.
Veins have valves, no muscles and takes the blood toward the heart.
