We Made Our Own Christmas Wreath - Here's How!

Yesterday we were invited to my son’s playschool to join our little ones in a wreathe making activity. This activity was followed by tea and cake, creating a very festive atmosphere. The little ones were jumping around with excitement at of having their parents at school with them. My son was way too determined to show us all his fun spots at school and didn’t pay too much attention to the task at hand, leaving me and his dad to complete the project.

This was our first time making a Christmas wreath, but I was so much easier than expected and I don’t know why we never did it before! You literally need to head out into your garden and you will have all the materials you need on hand! This activity makes a lovely and natural addition to all Christmas décor, especially if you like a touch of “rustic” in your festive displays.

Make Your Own Christmas Wreath

When you look at a wreath it really does look like there is a lot involved, but there truly isn’t. Ours took about 15 minutes to make and I think we did a pretty good job! We are neat freaks, so we went for the smaller more compact look, whereas some of the other parents and kids went all out and added a touch of everything, and they looked beautiful!

What you will need:

Some ling flexible sticks/branches from a shrub
A variety of leaves e.g. Rosemary, lavender, cypress, ferns (anything really)!
Pine cones (you could dust them with glitter, optional)
Ribbon
Twine
String
Scissors
All sorts of other buts and bobs you might like to add

Instructions:

Use your sticks/branches to make a circular shape, use 2-3 in one go. Tie the sticks with string and secure your circle. Wrap your other leaves and branches around, securing with string here and there. You can tie on your pine cones or simply add them to the center. We tied on red bows as a finishing and striking touch.

We are using our wreath as a display for our candles for advent, we are looking forward to lighting our first candle this Sunday! We made the candle holders from branches by cutting off small pieces and the drilling holes through the center. We then polished them with bees wax to make the last long.
