Bubbling Ocean Sensory Play Activity
Oh how we loved this activity! You’ll have noticed that my son and I have been up to a lot of fun recently. We have been exploring science, getting dirty with sensory play activities and we have been practising our creativity too. While I can’t wait for the school term to start again (it’s time), I really have enjoyed this bonding time with my child and learning through play with him.
Today we didn’t feel like going out, instead we decided to bring the ocean to our home in this fun ocean-exploring sensory activity. This “game” is suitable for toddlers and preschoolers, in fact, I am sure even older kids will enjoy feeling the squelching and bubbling “ocean” water on their hands.

Ocean Soap Foam – Sensory Play For Kids
I love sensory play that can be done both indoors and outside! This soap foam has a really great texture and is perfect for playing with on the patio or grass, then you can simply hose it away afterward. You could also do the activity indoors, but make sure you put down a waterproof mess mat first or put the sensory bin in the bathtub for easy cleaning.
To prepare this activity, you will need the following utensils and ingredients:
- One cup of warm water
- 4 table spoons of dish soap
- 4 table spoons of corn starch
- Blue food colouring
- A blender
- A sensory bin or large Tupperware
- Plastic sea creatures
Preparation:
- In your blender, add the water, dish soap, corn starch and food colouring. Blend on high speed until stiff peaks form.
- Pour the solution into your sensory bin and your sea creatures.
- Let the kids go wild!
*The corn starch is what helps stiffen it up, so if it is too watery, add more corn starch and dish soap.

My three-year-old loved running his hands through the bubbly water and playing with the ocean animals. I placed a bucket of clean water next to him so that he could rinses his animals too, as he played. The only downside is that the bubbly goop does not remain bubbly goop for very long, it eventually loses its cool texture the more it is played with. Still, we had fun!

While I am a big fan of free play, I do love to organise activities for my child that are stimulating, fun and engaging. This is a time where I get to explore and discover with him and keep him busy and entertained when no other toy or game will suffice. Enjoy your ocean play with your own little ones!
Much love - @sweetpea

Thanks for sharing this activity. Kids do seem to be able to enjoy such things by simply living in the moment and suspending disbelief that the plastic creatures are not real.
