Teachers Must Be Flexible When It Comes To Teaching And Learning Methods

Introduction

A teacher should be able to master many different teaching and learning methods, especially if they have the best interest of their students at heart. This is because not all students learn in the same way, or even at the same pace. While this does make teaching more difficult, it doesn’t make it impossible.

The extent of the success of a student, especially with younger learners, relies largely on the capabilities and knowledge of those teaching them. When a teacher is first introduced to a group of students, he or she needs to observe them and then decided on which method of teaching will help them learn best in a group environment.

The Purpose and the Use of Learning Methods

A teaching method comprises the principles and methods used by teachers to enable student learning. These strategies are determined partly on subject matter to be taught and partly by the nature of the learner. For a particular teaching method to be appropriate and efficient it has to be in relation with the characteristic of the learner and the type of learning it is supposed to bring about. Suggestions are there to design and selection of teaching methods must take into account not only the nature of the subject matter but also how students learn.

Supplying students with learning material is only the first step in the educational process. Thereafter, educators need to work with the students through methods like giving lectures, having group discussions and debates and question and answer activities.

The activities of the teaching and learning processes need to include human interaction to achieve the goal of teaching. This means that the personalities of the students need to be taken into account and worked with accordingly.

The Functions of Learning Methods and The Psychology of Education

As educators, we need to have knowledge on educational psychology and the science of the soul. This is what will help us assess the abilities of our students and help us to determine which teaching methods to use.

Learning theories are conceptual frameworks describing how knowledge is absorbed, processed, and retained during learning. Cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well as prior experience, all play a part in how understanding, or a worldview, is acquired or changed and knowledge and skills retained.

Social cognitive theory (SCT), used in psychology, education, and communication, holds that portions of an individual's knowledge acquisition can be directly related to observing others within the context of social interactions, experiences, and outside media influences. The theory states that when people observe a model performing a behaviour and the consequences of that behaviour, they remember the sequence of events and use this information to guide subsequent behaviours. In accordance with the quotes above, it can be further explained that social cognitive theory is a method for the distribution of the knowledge by way of observing students and then modelling behaviour that will be absorbed by them in a positive light.

Conclusion

Based on the above discussion, it can be concluded that a learning method can be viewed as the pattern of a learning presentation that is given by an educator to individuals or groups of students. To transfer knowledge to students successfully, educators must be able to stimulate the students accurately during the learning process, by getting down to the psychology of
