Top 17 most expensive material in the world

Good day steemians welcome to @steemnaira I know most of us believe that gold and diamonds are most expensive materials in the world well I used to think to think so too well, so I decided to do my reasearch, and I came up with 15 others materials aside from gold and diamonds.

Not only diamonds and gold are expensive.

Then what else? Here is a list of top most expensive materials starting from the least expensive.

Saffron $11/grams

Saffron is a plant belonging to the iris family (Iridaceae). People used it for thousands of years in the kitchen and as a natural remedy. Saffron has many scientifically proved benefits (calming, appetizing, antispasmodic), but also helps with slight depression, irregular menstruation and abdominal issues. Nowadays it is not so commonly used because of it’s high price. Saffron should not be mixed up with safflower, which is much cheaper.

Gold $56/grams

Gold is used for thousands of years. This metal cannot rust, this is why it is perfect for making jewelry. Also, there are some cosmetics that contain gold and also edible gold can be found.

Rodium $58/grams

Belongs to the platinum metals, used in catalysts in cars that reduces carbon-dioxide release.

Creme de la Mer $59/grams

The creator of the cream, Esteé Lauder states that their product does worth it’s price (as it is twice as expensive as gold!), since one of it’s ingredient, the special seaweed turns back the aging of the skin. The product is an invention of a NASA scientist – used originally for burn injuries. Let me just say they said it prevents skin from aging.

Platinum $60/grams

Besides the albums, platinum can be found in jewelry, catalysts. Also used in various experiments and used in cancer medications too.

Rhinoceros tusk $110/grams

The rhino tusk is only this expensive as it is believed that it cures cancer. This is the main reason that now the species are endangered. In 2013 the extinction of the western black rhinoceros has been announced, but also critically endangered the northern white rhinoceros and the Java rhino too, that, based ont he estimations, have only about 30-40 altogether in Indonesia.

Metamphetamin $130/grams

Taaffeite $20,000/grams

The taaffeite gemstone was found in 1945 by jeweller Edward Taaffee. Taaffeite is the only known gemstone that mainly consists of berillium and magnesium. The only currently known usage for it is as a gemstone. Said to be a million times rarer than diamonds. Can be found around Sri Lanka’s flood basins. The reason for it’s price is that nobody ever found any except the Dublin jeweller and officially it is one of the rarest gems

Tritium $30,000/grams

image

The world’s 4th most expensive material can be found in the EXIT signs. It contains hidrogen’s radioactive isotope – that is why the letters are glowing on those signs.

Diamond $55,000/grams

image

We don’t need to introduce diamonds to anyone. Became popular as the gemstone for engagement rings, but nowadays it is also used in industrial drilling and cutting for it’s hardness.

Californium $28 million/grams

image

Californium is an isotope that we can use to detect other materials, such as gold or silver in the ground. It’s neutron-activation is used to detect gold mines, oil or drinking water wells.

Anti-matter $65 trillion/grams

image

Anti-matter does exist, it has been discovered in 1955 in USA. Anti-matter is not of protons, neutrons and electrons but antiprotons, antielectrons and andineutrons, and as soon as it contacts any other matter, they both immediately destruct. When matter becomes energy, some material is still left over, and only a certain amount can be turned into energy. But when matter and anti-matter meet, this is not the case – their total amount is turned into energy! 1 grams of antimatter’s energy equals to a thousand space shuttle’s outer tanks’s energy!!
