For parents and teachers most times, it's somewhat tasking to get a child have an interest in studying and this lack of interest towards academics is a study problem. Individual personality could play a role in a child's willingness to learn and their overall disposition when it comes to academics.

Nobody is born a genius but geniuses are made through a known process just like a goldsmith refines gold. Although genes play a role in intelligence, genius is also a result of so much work.

It's only natural sometimes for kids to experience a kinda topsy turvy state when it comes to studying and it is something to be worried about. Hence, studying problems can range from minor to severe which can have a negative impact on kids.

Possible Causes of lack of interest in studying

  1. Bullying: some kids get bullied in school by other kids but choose to keep mum about it. This affects their self esteem and they lose focus from their studies.
  2. Bad teachers: Some teachers resort to harsh punishments and this indirectly scares kids away from studying. The fear of bad teachers makes them lose interest in their studies. Also incompetent teachers who have a boring way of teaching affect their interest.
  3. Difficult syllabus: rigid course work tend to make students give up on studying when they are unable to cope up with the prescribed syllabus.
  4. Clinical limitations like dyslexia which is a learning disability in reading. Kids who suffer this, lose interest in studies after much struggles to perform their best despite giving them the best of educators.
  5. Kids can get distractions from their environments even when you may have done your best in setting up a structure at home for your child's study but for some reasons your child is just not comfortable in the surroundings and it starts to affect their work. Perhaps it’s too noisy, not enough stimulating materials or it’s not a conducive space to study. Some also get too attached to their computer games and gradually lose interest in studying.
  6. Extremes of everything is bad. Like difficult syllabus is a discouraging point, even a boring or non challenging syllabus can be discouraging from a student's point of view. An extremely easy syllabus can be easily taken in the stride and studies will be ignored with students only resorting to last-minute studies.

Ways You Can Help Your Child to Learn

  1. Try to develop an atmosphere of reading by helping your child develop some reading skills. Always read to your child and have and have him or her read aloud. Make it a fun moment for them by filling your home with reading materials as that would make them love reading.
  2. It's important to guide your children through the learning process, but its just important to allow them have control of their own learning experience. When a child feels controlled, they can withdraw from learning. Allow them know about their mistakes and correct them.
  3. Encourage and introduce different types of learning styles that are best suited for your child. However, every child has learning preferences and styles such as visual, auditory, verbal, physical, logical, social and solitary.
  4. It is important to recognize and celebrate achievements of your child no matter how small, that would give room for improvements. Compliment them!
  5. Allow them sometime to play and engage in other extracurricular activities, like games, music lessons, look out for science adventure clubs. Too much reading can get them bored and lose interest in studying. However, encourage them to read regularly.
  6. Build a parent-teacher relationship. It's important you know your child's teacher and how well they do in school.

Conclusion:
Know your child, build up a good relationship with them, interact and seek their opinions about a given subject, support them always!

I think this is where most parents are getting it wrong. Some parents all they know is to scold and punish a child when he doesn't do well but they never praise or even reward the child when he does well.

Thanks for the add.
