Tales from Teacher’s College

Tales from Teacher’s College

We learn a lot of different things in Teacher’s college. We learn the fine art of educating the world youth. We are given the skills to prepare units, lessons and activities that will engage students and give them the wisdom to be responsible and productive members of society.

However, there are many other things that were taught to us as we were preparing to embark on our teaching journey. These are the stories from teachers college.

Something that several of our professors told us along the way was that in order to be fully invested in a school you should do your best to get involved. Be part of the school and all that it is doing to help the students. Don’t be that teacher that punches in, gets through the day and punches out. (Something that is impossible anyway but the message was clear)

Getting involved can come in so many ways. You might coach a sports team, run intramurals, organize a club or group that meets weekly to do activities. You might even get involved on a different level altogether and be involved with parent council and building relationships with families. The big message is that you are going to get out of your teaching position what you put into it.

For me personally this has been an easy task. I have always been someone who seeks out ways to get involved and provide opportunities for students. I have been everything from a coach to the leader of the green team and more. I find it so rewarding to see the kids getting engaged in activities and enjoying themselves. It is a great opportunity for them to excel outside the classroom.
