Classwork ideas

Classwork ideas:

• Boggle! Ask the children to make words from a single given word. For example, Constantinople. Combinations of three, four, five and six letter words can be made, such as taint, stain, pole, open, etc.

• Use word search boxes corresponding to the current subject. For instance, if you are teaching animal classifications, the students search for animals animal names, then write down the classification- which ones are mammals, amphibians and so on.

• Impromptu drama sessions can make the class lively. It also helps the children to express themselves, lose fear and learn along the way. English skits, taken from the course book can be used. (Enacting a short skit in the classroom based on the story of Goldie and the three bears, for example)

• Debate sessions are very helpful and drive the children to come up with innovative ideas. (The class can be grouped to discuss both sides of imminent issues like overuse of gadgets)

• Mock interview sessions can be held for the sake of senior students so that they become more confident. Prepare the week before by creating resumes, and on interview day the children take turns being interviewer and applicant. The other children can observe and vote for who gets the jobs!

• Weekly magazines can be prepared using contributions from the children. Assign roles- photographer, editor, sports writer, columnist…

• Field trips can be held for the children to have first hand experience. (Visiting the nearby factory or small scale industry or a farm for that matter)

• A class room blog is a great way to collect the works of the children. Blogs can be updated when the teacher requests new assignments.

• Small scale experiments can be performed to invoke the interest of children.

Often, simple tasks are ignored. By making it fun and lively, the kids find the classes interesting and not daunting, and therefore learn and retain more. Practical lessons mixed with fun will make your classroom lively and a great learning environment.

I thank the #steemiteducation channel for starting this initiative. Hope these posts on steemit help those teachers who seek help from the internet.
