New Schoolyear Is Coming - How To Get To Know Your New Students
Schools are about to open. New year, new class, new students. I am the teacher and I start to panic: How am I going to learn all those new names, faces, personalities again? How am I going to "speak" in a language that touches and teaches their souls? Definitely questions most educators ask themselves whenever the first schoolday of the year approaches.
This time I came up with with a new activity. I am a primary school teacher and you know how children of this age can be noisy and restless. So I thought, how about telling my new students to bring a photo taken on a very significant occasion and present themselves to the class with their own personal story?
After everybody is done with their stories we would pin the photos on the board. Then I would randomly choose a photo and ask the class if they remembered the name of their classmate and their story. Students get one point for every right answer. The winner is the student who gets the most points and their picture will stay pinned above the others on our classroom's "shot-to-remember" poster (That's another nice activity to make students engage with writing: Ask them to make labels to put next to their photos describing in a few words the captured moment. After that they stick their labels under their photos).
That was only one of the many ideas I got for this year. If you do some research I'm sure you'll find a lot more interesting and amusing activities. I hope you liked mine.
Steem on, people and keep smiling! :)

Thank you! I am already a follower :)
For a small number of students, I would prepare a map of the classroom and write names on it when the students are introducing themselves. Asking them to introduce themselves is also a good way to have all students speaking at least once during the first class and make the atmosphere a bit better (students are listening to each other better than to a teacher).
That's another good idea to get students talking about themselves on their first day! :)
Congrats on your win!!!!! Well deserved :) SUNSHINE247
