LEARN | Create Musical Instruments with Recycling Material

Today the theme of recycling is so important, that its main objective is to take care of the environment. Who does not want to live in a pollution-free environment? Recycling, besides helping us reduce pollution, gives us the opportunity to take advantage of all the material we thought we would throw away.
At present we can create so many beautiful things without spending money. We just have to let our imagination run wild and put creativity into practice.

When I saw that the subject of this contest Cervantes contest is about "Musical Instruments", I came up with the idea of researching and performing a work that teaches you how to make instruments with recycling material for the youngest of the house and so take advantage the opportunity to teach children the importance and benefits we bring to our planet through recycling.

Carrying out work with this material is so easy and fun that we can make it an everyday activity. Let us take this opportunity to teach our children to create their own fun musical instruments themselves.

Steps to follow:

• The guitar: You only need a cardboard box and elastics. You should make small holes on the sides of the box and hook the rubber band on them. This way you will create the base of the guitar. If you wish, you can add some elongated instrument that makes of arm so that they can manipulate it better.

• Maracas: they are easy to create. For this you need a small plastic bottle and a handful of legumes, if son varied better. When you put them in your bottle and machine, get a musical effect, which each will accompany with their own rhythm. And, if you wish, you can paint the bottle to get more attention from your child, remember that the colors attract them.

• The xylophone is another fun and uncomplicated instrument to create. In the first place you must make yourself with several bottles of hard glass. Fill them with water, each with different amounts. If you want to add to each one, drops of tempera of different colors to give a more fun effect. Put them all together and use metal and wood spoons to hit them, the effect changes and you will be amazed.

• The battery can be built using boxes of different materials: wood, carton, tin and everything you can think of. Paste them with tape or glue, depending on the material you have chosen, to each other and can make music using metal or wood cutlery to obtain different sounds. If you use glue or glue, it is advisable to manipulate it.

• The tambourine is another musical instrument easy to make homemade, but in this case an adult should help. To do this you will need bottle, wire and round plates, such as cardboard tubes or plastic bottles. Take the bottle or the tube and cut two circumferences. Now drill holes in the center of all plates. When you have it, you must join the sheets to the circles two by two, that is, take two sheets, pass a piece of wire through the holes and glue the ends of the wire in each circle with tape. Leave a few centimeters between the two circumferences.

• The Trumpet: You only need a tube of rubber, plastic or cardboard. Funnel, scissors, colored adhesive tapes. Place the funnel on one end of the rubber tube. If it does not fit, fix it with an adhesive tape and decorate it with your colored ribbon. In order for the trumpet to sound, you have to press both lips on the mouthpiece, drawing the air as if you were making "pedorretas".

• The Flute: You can do it with something as simple as straws, sorbets, reeds, pitillos or whatever we want to call them. They are sold in any supermarket. You will need as many as you want the flute, that is, you can do it with four straws or twelve. To your liking! We will also need some duct tape or glue. We must cut the pitillo each one a little shorter than the previous, until we have a handful of them (as we said before, as many as you want) we can make use of a ruler to measure them. Then we put a layer of insulation tape, place the cigarettes carefully on this, and wrap with the tape to be fastened.
