Let's look up some of our brain facts, today...

1.) The average human brain weighs about 1.5kg

2.) Battle and gun-fighting computer games enhance multi-tasking; because the act of killing multiple targets or enemies means you are self-aware and constantly reacting to events and incidents around you.

3.) There is a reason why you can’t tickle yourself – it is impossible to do so – reason being that expected sensations or stimuli are dulled by the brain when we cause them ourselves.

4.) The human brain is composed of about 75% water.

5.) The human brain stops growing at the age of 18 years.

6.) Your brain makes use of 20% of the total oxygen within your body.

7.) When you dream, your brain waves are more active than when you are awake.

8.) Stress is a great enemy to good health. Studies show that excessive stress alters brain function, brain structure, and brain cells.

9.) Without oxygen, the brain can survive for around 4 to 6 minutes, before it starts dying. Absence of oxygen for between 5 to 10 minutes will cause permanent brain damage.

10.) The practice of talking often and reading aloud to a child enhances brain development.

11.) The fattest organ in the human body is the human brain and it is said to contain about 60% fat.

12.) The brain of a new baby increases in size in the first year to about three times its size.

13.) During jet lag, the stress hormones released can damage the temporal lobe and memory.

14.) While you are laughing, there are five active areas of your brain in use.

15.) Over 100,000 chemical reactions take place in the brain every second.

16.) A woman's brain shrinks during pregnancy, and it take about 6 months for it to regain its size.
