At What Age Should A Child Be Educated?

The time between 0-6 years of a child’s age is often referred to as “The Golden Age”. It is during this time that an individuals brain absorbs information the fastest. It is also during this age that their physical, mental and spiritual development peaks and prepares them for the years to come. So, the question is, when should you start to educate your child?

In my opinion, the earlier the better! And it all begins at home with the parents. Play with your children and they will learn! As adults we see playing as a childish act, but for the little guys, it’s a big deal. There is so much to learn through fun games. You can learn Maths, English, Science, Biology – you name it! Encouraging children to play games gives them the opportunity to learn as well as to develop motor and sensory skills, which are very important for learning later on in life too.

Ideally, kids should learn through play for as long as possible and only when they surpass the age of six should they be introduced to a more formal education. This is why government schools only accept children into grade one from the age of six and a half, which in my opinion, is still quite young!

At the same time, a child might have surpassed the age of playing and might need something more challenging, so in essence, by keeping him or her from a formal education, you are suppressing his eagerness to learn. In this case, it is up to the parents to assess the situation and meet the needs of the child, either by enrolling them into extracurricular activities or by teaching them more advanced things themselves.
