Good to Know: Strength and Serenity of Bamboo
My recent inspiration of talking about the Zen life came from my encounters with Matcha and the stresses of life. Through my research with the ceremonial way of drinking Matcha Tea and my quest for other ways to de-stress, I have been able to see how bamboo influences the whole outlook and how it makes everything have that touch of Zen in them. So what really is the Zen lifestyle?
Zen
There are so many here who are Yoga practitioners that could explain what Zen truly is, but from what I believe in, as a non-practitioner, is that it aims to achieve peace. It promotes self-control, meditation which contributes to a better outlook in life personally as well as the welfare of others. Achieving such, aids in the ability to think clearly which then enables the person's ability to decide effectively, and even react positively.
Bamboo
Looking up the Zen lifestyle, in Yoga, even in achieving a relaxed state through meditation and even a massage, the bamboo will always be in the picture. Even if you are to close your eyes, envisioning the sounds of nature, birds chirping, wind blowing and listening to the flow of the river streams, the color green and bamboo would always come to mind.
This may have been an inspiration from Chinese Buddhism that promoted meditation in solemn forests that are abundant with bamboo in the past. Something that has been widely spread among the different Asian countries particularly that of the Asian-pacific regions.
There is this feeling in seeing the bamboo that is calm, serene, peaceful, or tranquil. It eases the heart, it rests the mind, it calms the body. Ultimately, the bamboo aids in refreshing one's self.
Strength and Versatility
While one could achieve a better outlook in life with the bamboo's relaxing feel in a Zen lifestyle, we would have to recognize its uses. The bamboo is strong as it is flexible. Many have recognized its many uses in construction as it is notable for its strength and durability. We also have to identify that compared to many hardwood, bamboo grows faster which, in turn, yields more.
Having lived in a tropical country where bamboo is abundant. I have seen many structures in the form of huts and even furniture made out of bamboo that has lasted for many many years.
I recently slept in one, much like this, overnight. It was funny how it came to happen.
With all of that said, the bamboo is not only there for aesthetic and relaxing purposes. But its uses are found to be very abundant in the engineering department because of its sheer strength and flexibility. But if we combine both its uses, there are many different products we would be able to have outside furniture and structures.
These are some of the example products I have come across with that brings about both the Zen look and feels as well as uses outside that of construction, furniture and kitchenware.

Finish Line
Bamboo really is something. Not only is it pleasing to the eyes, it definitely has plenty of uses. Uses that are not limited to the art of construction but also to something that we can bring in our daily lives. One thing I would like to note is that even my uncle is currently doing further research on more uses we can do with bamboo which I hope he will do so successfully.
If anything, I have found a general loving for bamboo because of its properties as well as the relaxation that it brings. Hopefully you guys would have that same feeling after having me with this good to know post.
