TEACHERS ARE BORN

I am back on my rock as this is the place where I can really think. Some people do not like my rock others do, so I will sit here and think until I am asked to leave the rock and find another place to sit. Just, joking with you.

I have asked my family to scatter my ashes over this rock when I leave this earth.

Today I want to tell you how difficult it is to teach children to be good and enjoy life in a good way.

After working with children for over 40 years you can imagine how many sad and happy stories I have seen and heard.

For me it was the perfect work, as I think teachers are born and they will always love their work.

Once you become a principal you realise how many facets there is to this job.

Teachers have a class to look after, but as a principal you have to look after all the children and sometimes even after the teachers.

I cannot help laughing as I am still in contact with some of the teachers I use to work with.

One of them is a lady who was an absolute perfectionist and still is.

She wrote me  a message a few days ago she is getting fed up with driving everyone around at the old age home where she is living.

She is now 80 years old and still the same, she says and this is what I find so funny, is that the old people are driving her up the wall. But people who are over ninety definitely become like children again. I saw that in my mother who passed away not long ago and she was 95.

My wife kept saying it is a privilege to still have a mother when you are over 70 and she was so right. But until she was about 92 she was still fine and read a story book a day. Then they suddenly become like children again. It seems like their short memory just disappear but they do remember everything from long ago.

This teacher told me about and old man of 97 who asked an old lady out for dinner, she was very happy. When he did not turn up my teacher went to find out what was wrong and he said he had forgotten who he asked. 

They talk nonsense and she does not know how they became so old so quickly.

I am telling you she will stay young of heart until she passes as she was one of the best teachers that I knew and one of the most caring ones.

I personally think that is why she feels they are irritating as she always taught children and they listened because she knew what she was doing.

Now she has these old people who are becoming like children and there is no way that she can fix it.

She was one of those teachers that you never had to check on or get children from her because she knew how to run a class.

I really feel sorry for her, as she is really getting old yet I think she could still be teaching.  I am lucky as I still have my wife and we have a lot of fun together, she lost her husband many years ago, and she must be very lonely.

But my whole point is that teachers are born as they definitely do not work for the money, but for the children that they adore.

If you have been teaching for so long, you wonder why you get parents who just do not care.

Yet there are luckily more parents that care than those who do not.

Parents listen to what your children are telling you, try and help them and if you cannot find someone who can.

It is so important to keep our children happy and safe.
