3RD GRADE MATH - INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCEPT OF AREA
Introducing the Concept of Area to 3rd Grade Students
Area is the surface enclosed inside the boundaries of any two dimensional surface. For example; we need to paint a wall then we have to find the area of the wall surface to be painted if we want to estimate the amount of paint used.
In elementary grades kids need to learn about this concept. The best strategy is to introduce a unit tile to kids, we can use paper strips and paper unit tiles with area of 1 square inches or 1 square centimeters. Kids can make their own very easily using paper and the ruler.

Its really interesting when we have to fill the rectangle with unit tiles but keeping in mind that THERE SHOULD BE NO OVERLAPPING OR GAPS @mathworksheets. I think this is the main thing we need to tell kids. Thanks for wonderful ideas. Keep sharing such good posts.
Yes, when kids do a project using tiles cut off paper then they need to take about overlapping and gaps. Thanks for your valuable input @gautam :))

@mukhtarilyas, introducing spacious with true floor tile unit @mathworksheets is very easy for the child. But in our curriculum in Aceh Indonesia, first-graders of elementary school have been introduced by determining the area of the rectangle by the number of tiles that cover. Thank you friend
