A "Ball" About Me Activity
If you are looking for a fun ice-breaker activity for your learners, or perhaps you are currently working on a "self-esteem" or "self-growth" theme, then why not give this fun activity a go? This casual lesson gives students the opportunity to get to know themselves and their fellow students better while practicing their creativity at the same time.
It's "Ball About Me" is an inspirational activity that is ideal to do at the beginning of a school year or term, to break the ice and to help students settle back into the school environment. It's a lovely way for teachers to get to know their students too - teaching is always more rewarding when there is a good understanding and relationship between the educator and their learners.
Preparation and Application
This activity offers students of all ages the opportunity to get their crayons and markers out and use their creativity, while finding a sense of self at the same time! Prepare the lesson beforehand by printing out a template of a soccer ball (please find a printable below). Then mark each of the ball's hexagons with a topic or interest, make sure that the kids will be able to easily think of something to draw or illustrate in the place of each titled hexagon. For example:
- A portrait of yourself
- Favorite book
- Favorite movie
- A hobby
- Their name
- Favorite color
- Best food
- Age

Give your students some time to fill in their hexagons, give them the whole lesson to do it if possible, or you could even send it home as a project to work on. Once they have finished their balls, you could ask them to do a show-and-tell on them, or, to use it as more of an "icebreaker" or "get-to-know-you" activity, you could put students in teams of to and ask them to do a talk on their partners ball (discussing his or hers interests and so forth).

Decorate your own ball so that your students get to know a little about you too! Once you have all completed "show and tell", decorate the classroom walls with the colorful and unique All About Me Balls!
