I recently visited the Dead See where we have a kind of same phenomenon: a lot of salt that gathered as huge salt deposits due to the lowering of the see level. As a result, the area is also very dangerous because of sinkholes made by fresh water getting to the salt and dissolving it.
While looking up information on Lake Natron, I read about the Dead Sea. What I find remarkable in this case, though, is the creatures that have adapted to endure such toxic environments.
Nature should never be underestimated!
