Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes, and cooking. It's about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity. - Guy Fieri

I think FAR too few people actually know how to cook properly these days... it is all about "instant this" and "take away" that and 99% of it is just SO bad for you! It is a sad state of affairs really!

I think that much like art or sport - cooking is an essential fundamental in the foundation stage of kids - both boys and girls alike. It is not just about the process (although that is an incredibly important part of it) but it is a complete sensory experience!

When kids get involved in cooking they don't only develop a new skill-set, no - The discover creativity, taste exploration, texture experience and so much more!!! Much like any other creative art - it is beneficial in a multi-faceted way.

Over and above all the wonderful things that they get to enjoy when experimenting with cooking and/or baking as kids - more importantly this is a skill which they will carry with them into adulthood. It is a knowledge that can NEVER be taken away from them.

Learning to cook and work with different food types, where to find them, how they grow, where they grow, what you can do with them and how they can benefit or harm you is a survival skill. One which I believe ALL people should have.

Aside from the above mentioned benefits - cooking or baking with kids breeds confidence, self-sufficiency, the ability to follow instructions as well as problem solving skills.

And MOST importantly of all - they love it, because it is FUN!

There are NO negatives to encouraging your kids to join you in the kitchen - I can promise you that!

Many times, as parents, we do not give them the credit they deserve. They are far more intelligent and capable than we ever give them the opportunity to prove. So my advice is, the next time you are prepping dinner... pull your kid/s int the kitchen and get them involved....

I am prepared to put money on the fact that after the first five minutes, they will be a lot more enthusiastic and engaging than you ever thought they would be.

Get them to slice the cucumber, peel the potatoes, stir the pot, put the ingredients in for you. Get them to smell the herbs you add - tell them what they are. Let them taste the dish, prepare the gravy - oh I could go on!

There must be a million interactive activities your kids could and should be engaging with on a daily basis with you - in the kitchen!

Until next time...

Why thank you :)

Working with children is very emotional, children develop new skills, it is very inspiring - when they teach children what health food is - it's even better for children.
@jaynie

It really is a very emotional thing indeed!

Great post! blue_heart.jpg Teaching children to cook also gives them basic skills with tools, such as how to use a knife without cutting yourself, safety around electric mixers (watch that hair and loose clothing!), and so forth!

Well said my dear! Kids in general are so damn "protected" by their parents these days that they LACK all the REALLY IMPORTANT fundamentals!

A good idea you have shared, I'm sure your son will grow up to be a wonderful husband in the near future. I believe all parents should do same, instilling good attitudes in their kids. That's a nice one from you today, thanks Jaynie

Very True @collinz - I have no doubt that he will impress ANY lady later on in life... hehehe - Thank you for the lovely comment xxx

That is absolutely adorable =)

hehehe thank you @caminito :) Appreciate the enthusiasm :D

Oh this is so lovely to see my friend! It is same here, when I am in the kitchen...my daughter is always there with me putting hands together!
Love those moments!

They really are VERY special moments indeed!!!! xxx

Three of my four love cooking with me. It's fun, and they learn so much. I'm sure 90% of the math my daughter knows is from cooking.
