Choosing the Right Hashtag for a Social Media Campaign

Hashtags are really important for social media campaigns. For a campaign to be noticeable, your hashtag needs to be striking. Just the way a good name draws people to a person, a good hashtag gets the needed attention. If you are thinking of starting a social media campaign, this article will be beneficial. I will talking about some campaigns I did in the past.

The hashtag needs to be short. Yeah, really short but still passing a message. Imagine doing a medical awareness campaign for a product, and the hashtag is like #EmzorCanRelieveYourPainsWithinMinute. It's so not good for the eyes, you have to make it short like, #EmzorPainReliever or even #Emzor - the product name.

That is the picture of a campaign I did for Samsung and Easytaxi on Twitter around February, 2014. Both companies partnered to have a free ride day for their customers. So the tag #EasyTaxiSamsungFreeDay was chosen. The tag is one that could easily be understood. That is Easy Taxi + Samsung = Free ride day, since Easy Taxi is a company like Uber.

The tag has to be unique too. Yes, Unique. Using a tag someone else has used before will make it difficult to sort out posts on the tag, just the way it is on Steemit. So a unique tag should be used to simplify things. Turning keywords into tags is a good thing to do.

The tag should relate with the brand. Just like the tags I mentioned earlier, Emzor - Pain reliever, Easytaxi - Car rides. This is important to send the right message to whoever sees the tag. The more the tags you use, the lower the possibility of it getting viral.

The number of tags used in a campaign should be limited. When the hashtag is too many, it makes it look like spam. When it's few, it is easier to make it trend. Like the twitter campaigns I do most times, I usually suggests to to the company to use max or 2 tags.
