Homework submission @steemiteducation, five reasons why teachers should go for breaks and what students do during breaks

in #steemiteducation8 years ago (edited)

A teacher is a person who teaches or instructs and impacts knowledge; he or she is one whose business or occupation is to instruct others particularly students; a teacher is an instructor or a tutor. Teachers play a major role in schools to ensure that students are properly brought up, taught and exposed to the rudiments and fundamentals of a field of knowledge. He or she is an academician, faculty member, lecturer, reader, principal, head teacher, or school master and therefore in one way involved in the training of a student. In fact, they are the second to parents in terms of child upbringing. Due to the fact that they are usually engaged and occupied most time of the academic year, there is need for a period of rest after the termination of an academic year; the period between the termination of a semester and the beginning of another is often referred to as vacation, holiday or break. Break in this context, may also mean a short period of time in which the teacher has some days off, from work as a result of either a public holiday or the middle of an academic term popularly called mid-term or mid-semester break. All these shows that break is an intermission of a stated employment.

Teachers should go for breaks because of the following reasons

  1. Rest and leisure: Teachers are very busy people; this can be inferred from their engagement with their students always which makes them fatigued throughout the day and throughout the semester or term. They are also human beings like Doctors, bankers e.t.c therefore they need to have breaks so that they can be able to have a mind filled with tranquility from everything which wearies or disturbs; they need time for peace and resting. For a quote goes thus “All play no work makes jack a doll boy.” They need to rest as a result of the hard work, noise of the students e.t.c , after all they are not machines.

  2. Celebrations: Teachers believe in the existence of God and are either Muslims or Christians, they therefore need break during various religious festivals (Christmas or Eid celebration) to be able to celebrate and enjoy the joyous and mirthful season as other folks do.

  3. Read and Conduct research: Teachers are leaders, while leaders are readers, teachers need breaks and holidays to read and add more knowledge to what they have currently. Every day, researches are being conducted, new problems arise and control methods are reached. For a teacher to be successful, he or she must have time to add more to he or she knows so that every day he or she will become a better person. Some teachers even go for part-time courses so that they can improve in their skills and knowledge.

  1. Mark tests, examinations and assignments: one of the biggest tasks every teacher has is the issue of marking exams and tests. He or she must ensure that examination papers are properly marked in a painstaking manner because he or she would be responsible for the failure of any student. They also need to have enough time for recording scores of tests on report sheet to ensure that students are properly graded. Breaks are usually one of the best time to do this as it is the best time they have to mark carefully.

  2. Connect and meet family and friends: Teachers also have family and friends , therefore they need to connect with them. This is because without them they can’t procreate, they need to visit their parents and have time for their family too. For without their parents they can’t be on planet earth. Their parents were responsible for making them who they are today.
    What students do during breaks

A student is a person engaged in study or one who is devoted to learning; it is often used to refer to a learner, a pupil or a scholar; one who attends a school, or who seeks knowledge from professional teachers. Students usually do the following during breaks.

  1. Revise and Read lecture materials ahead: During breaks especially long vacation, smart students read syllabus materials of the next session and research more on the topics they have the next session. They also revise notes of the previous session to understand concepts they don’t understand during the academic session.

2.Do some house chores and help their parents: during breaks some students do help their parents in their shops and help them to do some house chores such as washing plates e.t.c

  1. Celebrate with family and friends: Just as teachers need to celebrate various religious festivals, so do students do the same.

  2. Visit to tourist places and connect with other family and friends: During holidays, students also visit and learn from places of landmark such as museum, zoo to learn about the beauty of nature.

  3. Play games with friends and rest: As it is often said “all work no play makes Jack a dull boy.” During breaks students play games to refresh their memory. Playing games help to enhance and improve the mental skills. It also helps them know how to solve problems. It helps them improve their thinking abilities. Addiction to games however has its negative consequence.

As breaks are period of enjoyment and rest, so is it a time that both teachers and student need to maximize to learn and stay happy with family members.
