Good afternoon my dear community of @steemiteducation, fulfilling the task of the week I will talk about a character that I liked a lot, and who was the teacher of Hellen Keller, Anne Sullivan.

Anne Sullivan was born on April 14, 1866. Her parents came to the United States from Ireland as a result of the Irish famine. His mother dies with tuberculosis when Sullivan was eight years old. When his mother dies his two brothers were sent to live with relatives leaving Anne in the care of his father. Later these relatives could no longer help with the care of their siblings and they were sent to a care home for low income children, there their brother jimmie dies with hip tuberculosis.

Anne gets a disease called trachoma, and it ends up deteriorating her sight. Years later, she underwent several operations and her sight improves remarkably, she manages to study and finish her studies with honors. Sullivan is preparing as an educator to teach the alphabet to deaf and blind people, it is in this activity where she meets Hellen Keller
with whom he would write a whole life that not even they imagined that over time would become recognized worldwide.

Anne meets Hellen Keller when she arrives in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Hellen was a little girl-blind. Sullivan begins to teach her to read, write and speak. In this way, Hellen begins to understand her environment. We all know the great challenges that deaf children have specifically, these days I accompanied my brother to his therapies and in the place a therapist showed the great progress that had reached a mute deaf child operated several times, the words he read and repeated memories that they were "ball" and "water" filled me so much that I applauded their effort and everyone followed me, and the child smiled happily. That's why it inspires me so much to speak to you also on this occasion of Hellen Keller.

Anne takes on this great challenge and starts working with Hellen every day, making her touch objects and spelling out what she was, in this way she begins to read. So that he could learn to read he gets a ribbed board so that with a pencil he could start writing his first letters. In order to teach her to speak, Anne placed Hellen's hand in her throat so that she could feel the vibrations of her vocal cords. However it was a time later with the help of a teacher that Hellen manages to speak clearly.

Anne's help in the life of Hellen Keller was very valuable. The preparation that led her to be trained as a very good student and accepted at the University of Radcliffe, there she graduated with honors, thus being the first person blind deaf to obtain a degree.

Anne and Hellen never separated since they met, they were always close to each other. They came to work together giving talks of improvement to people with this condition, and they managed to write a book telling their life experiences.

Sullivan died in 1936 in the company of his great friend Hellen, who became a writer, speaker and activist for the rights of the less fortunate. In 1962, Hollywood made a movie telling the life of both entitled "The Miracle of Anne Sullivan" and came to get two Osca awards at that time. Hellen passes away in the year 1968 and the ashes of both are in the Cathedral of Washington D.C.

The Life of Anne Sullivan is very inspiring, I enjoyed reading about this great woman, she taught me that being an educator goes beyond imparting knowledge, it is a vocation to love what you do. Her life was full of osbtacles from her childhood but nothing stopped her, she went ahead with the full conviction that her condition would not stop her but rather would lead her to prepare to help others. And well when talking about Anne, you have to talk about Hellen as well, since the one was always close to the other.
