Unexpected disruption

Many of us follow a regular routine daily and it makes us feel confidence.

Our routine is already automated and we are quite sure of the success rate of it.

It is like our old habits and we do not even need to think hard what we need to do first and next.

Just like driving a car to get home, the driver may not be thinking much while on the mobile phone.

He is able to get home in the familiar route without much needed considerations.

The moment there is a roadblock and there is a need to drive through an unfamiliar route, there may be rise of some anxiety if our friend, google map, does not help us.

The driver on the unfamiliar road may start to get very alert to see whether he can drive to the different roads based on google map's instruction.

Without google map, the driver may feel fearful and angry as he may not be confident enough with the different turns before he can reach his house.

Our Focus

When our routine is disrupted, we need to stay focused and see what is a possible alternative rather than getting panic.

When steemit was disrupted due to hardfork, our daily routine of going into steemit was cut off.

We did not feel good. We need to redirect our focus to something meaningful like taking a walk in the park that we have not done so for a long time.

We can also focus on writing more articles and save them on Microsoft word.

When we direct our focus on something we feel that is meaningful like spending more time with our children, our emotions would not be affected by the unexpected disruption to our daily routine.

There are many things we can do as long as we redirect our focus correctly.

Our Emotions

As teachers, we dislike being disrupted when someone knocks on the door and ask for a certain student.

The moment we stop, we need to recap at which point our lesson is interrupted and also the momentum of lesson may be disrupted.

We can get emotional but we need to calm our minds and move on since there is nothing we can do to stop others from knocking on our classroom doors.

When our emotion is affected and we start to use a different tone of voice during lesson, our students are the ones who would suffer.

We need to take a good check at our emotions especially of unexpected disruption that can even be a sudden fire drill or a real emergency in school.

As teachers, we must be aware of our possible negative emotions as they may affect our students when they see us emotionally disturbed.

We should be role model of how to cope with unexpected disruptions to our students.

Attention from others

Most of our pupils can be easily distracted due to external reasons.

We need to find ways to direct their attention back to our lessons.

Some teachers can simply raise their voices and their students do not dare to lose focus on their lesson.

There are also some teachers who may get their students to do some breathing exercising to calm themselves and get back to the mood of learning like mindfulness breathing.

As teachers, we would have known what can work for our own classes so we should not just leave them distracted while continue with our lesson as nothing may get into their brains.

In conclusion

There can be many unexpected disruptions and they can even be serious emergencies.

We must be mentally ready for them and we should not let our emotions be affected.

Even if we are affected, we must look calm so that others would not be affected.

In a school, there are so many students and teachers, we do not know what can happen.

There can always be something we never expect to happen so let’s be mentally prepared for them.
