Train for patience

in #steemiteducation6 years ago (edited)

In our modern society, most things are instant nowadays.

In the past, we had to visit the library to find information for research.

In this present age, we can just use the internet and we can easily find the information that we need quite instantly.

Many of us also take the advantage of instant food like instant noodles and microwave food. We lack the patience to wait since time is considered money to us.

Instant becomes common while waiting becomes a test for our limited patience.

This short article is just a few thoughts about how we can stretch our patience as well as the patience of our kids at home.

Delay gratification

It is very common for our kids to want something eagerly and expect to get it asap.

Some kids may even cry in the public places leading to great embarrassment to their parents. Some parents may just give in to their usual crying tactic.

The crying tactic becomes a habit of getting things quickly and can lead to unreasonable demands in the future.

As parents, we should not give in to our children when we know that it would not be good for them.

Ignore the crying and any other methods but set an agreement if you feel that you can give it but there is a need to wait for your child’s readiness.

Just like the mobile phone where our children want it since others have it.

When we give in too early, our children may end up having cyber addiction.

As parents, we need to be firmed with our decision.

Set a deadline

We can train our patience as well as the patience of our children using deadline.

A simple target to save a certain amount of money to buy a desire item rather than using our credit card to buy something with borrowed money.

We can target to get our desired item many months later with good planning.

This can lead to the stretching of our patience.

A good strategic plan with determination to follow can lead to increase of our patience.

Just like the upgrade of hardfork 20 for steemit.

Many lose patience while waiting for their mana voting bar to recharge to a healthy state.

Perhaps it was a good time to train our patience.

Play chess

It definitely takes patience to play a good game of chess as we think through different strategies and moves.

Very often, we need to think ahead of possible moves by our opponent.

We need to wait for our opponent and our opponent will need to wait for us.

Through playing chess, we can understand that success can come through careful planning of every step.

A short moment of success may lead to failure in the end as the initial success is not the final result.

In conclusion

As you read this short article, we can already think of areas that we need more patience like waiting for our partners to choose their clothes during shopping at a mall.

Patience to wait for the growth of our children to understand us better.

The patience to understand the people around us before jumping to conclusion.

Being patience can benefit us in many ways as we can make wiser decision after considering all factors.

Sort:

Instant gratification is nothing new but it is being exacerbated in this technological era. During the plastic toy era, before the internet, I was that kid using the cry tactic to get toys I wanted. I am grateful that adults did not give into it, it helped me understand patience a lot more.

Thanks for your comment!
