Theatre Etiquette for kids

in #steemiteducation6 years ago (edited)

I had recently brought my 11-year-old students to a musical play.

Most of them had never watched a musical play before and I doubt that their parents would bring them for one.

My students had the chance to watch the musical play titled ‘Mr Popper's Penguins’.

I wonder how many of them can understand the wonderful meaning behind the story.

Since it was the first time watching a musical play so I had to tell them about theatre etiquette.

Respect

Pupils must learn to respect the actors who are putting up the show.

They should never make negative remarks even if they do not enjoy it.

They should keep their negative comments to themselves and they can express their opinions about the play when we get back to school.

Communication

I had to warn my pupils about talking while the play was going on.

They should avoid talking and just concentrate on the play.

My school actually paid for their tickets so they were watching the play for free actually.

They should appreciate the opportunity of watching a real play and avoid communication.

It was a great learning experience and they should just immerse themselves in the play totally.

Appreciation

Regardless of the quality of the musical play, they should show appreciation to the actors by clapping at different moments.

I wonder how many of my pupils were able to see the amount of energy that the actors had to put in during the show.

Clapping for their performance is really courtesy and great theatre etiquette.

No food and drink

Students must be aware that food and drink may not always be allowed.

The musical play was a learning journey so they should not be distracted by food and drink.

My students were given a break to eat at the school canteen before they headed for the play actually.

In conclusion

It was a great experience for my students and the play had a wonderful meaning to it too.

Through watching the play, students learnt that money is not everything but the fulfilment of life is more important.

Students were also given the opportunities to ask the actors some questions.

I hope that this will be a great memory that stays with them even in their adulthood.
